I am in Northern California in Penn Valley. I have been most drawn to Anderson 100 series which is a Fibrex composite material.

I have a few Anderson windows. the bay window and a casement window. both wood interior and vinyl clad exterior. I haven't had any issues with them.

@reneedanenberg, we just used Anderson 100 series. I would use them again. Good value. However, note that on mulled windows they screw both sides to stiffen the joint. The screw they use has a large head that is exposed. Not cosmetically appealing. We resolved this by removing the screw and replacing it with a smaller head screw similar to a deck screw. It looked much better. You could also countersink the screw and fill with Anderson's composite filler.

I've had Milgard vinyl replacement windows here in SoCal since last year. I really like them. One window had to be a retrofit from another company and it's great too. It's yet another area where the quality of the installation is very important

We just completed the build of our new house and used Milgard double hung windows. They are so easy to open and lock and operate very smoothly. We also used Anderson for a couple of sets of French doors and love them too. Both are high quality products. Our house is also in northern California.

I am getting bids on Milgard, and Anderson. my PM said he will get a bid from Sierra Pacific which I have never heard of. we will see where the $$ land.
