Hi Jon, without a visual representation I'd say you can still save your plants. Here's some stuff you can do:

-Remove any fertilizer that you can see on the soil. If your fertilizer was a powder or other physical form, any that is left on the top soil should be removed to prevent from overfirtilizing even more.

-Cut off curling plants. Now that they've curled, you should just clear the space to let healthier leaves grow in.

Keep in mind, it may take a few weeks for your plant to return to full health. I hope this helps! Good luck!

Many thanks for the advice. I'm adding a couple of photos to this comment if this helps give a sense of what kind of shape the plant is in: does it look like it's salvageable?

I think it's tillandsia brachycaulos and it looks normal. Is the color natural or is it paint? If it's natural, the plant has too much sun.

That is definitely not an ionantha. Raxidor calls it once again. Personally, Jon, it looks like you have nothing to worry about. The tips don't have that 'burnt' out look, the leaves seems to have the brachycaulos' bouncy spring, and overall I see little difference from this one to my own (other than the slightly smaller size and red color; mine's still a baby.) Looks fine.
