I have never heard of lemons tasting that way. Was it the first batch? I am very surprised. Meyer lemons are especially juicy and tasty. I've been thinking of your problem. I hope JohnM sees this and comments.

I don't know honestly, but I got my first lemon from a tree a few months ago (just bought one in August) and they often first taste tart like a lemon, then sweeter like an orange, then a little sour. It's weird that one lemon can be tart and sweet at the same time. At least that's how my lemons taste.

What kind of fertilizer do you use? How often? Sometimes a chemical imbalance can affect the flavor of a fruit. Is this your first harvest? It is common for young citrus trees to produce less than stellar fruit; and you have to wait for a few years for them to get their best. Can you post a photo of your tree; and perhaps a cross section of the fruit?

I just made lemon curd with my Meyers and a store bought lisbon/eureka(to get enough juice) and I did a side by side taste test of the fruit and I have to say that I didn't much care for the taste of the Meyer. Not lemony enough and kind of muddy tasting not clean and fresh like the store bought lemon. I too am hoping it was just because its the first lemons my tree has produced and that with time they will have a better flavor. I am planning on adding a Santa Teresa and/or a Ponderosa to my collection in spring to give me something with a more acidic flavor. I wish you luck and I might suggest using your lemons in baked goods or cooked dishes, while I didn't like the fresh taste once cooked it was just fine.

I have had the lemon tree for about 4 years. I live in Maryland so during the nice seasons it is outside and when it get colder we put it inside by our sliding glass door. It always looks very healthy and I always get 10-18 lemons each time it produces. I use dyna-gro liquid foliage-pro plant food 9-3-6. I add it to the water before watering the tree. I can not remember what the bottle suggestion is for useage but I know I never use the plant food as much as it says to. Maybe once every one to two months. and i do sometimes spray the tree at night with a water/alcohol mix to keep the scales away. other than that I don't put anything else on the tree. thank you for all the ideas, info and support :-)

It's a beautiful tree and you are feeding it correctly. I have no idea. Could it be that you guys are just not used to the flavor. Or maybe Hobby is right..picked too late or too early? I would suggest trying them in lemon desserts...they are wonderful!

the first year I had lemons i picked them as soon as they turned yellow and they still had the earthy taste so I waited a little longer the next times, this time they were on the tree longer than usual. I didn't think about that

Hmm, I don't have any idea, other than it's a young tree. Good amount of fruit for its size. You got a good fertilizer for it.

Yeah it looks great... I have seen other people post about meyer flavor... but it seemed they may not be used to it as compared to eureekas/lisbons. Could it be that because meyers don't have the sharp acidity of regular lemons you guys are thinking the flavor is off?

If you leave Meyer lemons on the tree too long they develop an off taste. That is one of the disadvantages to this variety.

Also Meyer is not as sour as other lemons, being a hybrid between lemon and mandarin.
