Need help with cracked stalk

So I bought my first amaryllis and have enjoyed watching it grow. To my ignorance I didn't realize they had to be staked upright, and it has fallen over due to the weight of the one bloom and other buds. I have it staked upright, but noticed that there is a small crack in the stem. Can it remain how it is now or do I need to remove the stem from the bulb? I'd hate to lose the other buds!

If the bloom is spent you can cut the stem off. Is is not uncommon for heavy blooms to stress and break or crack the stem.

to protect the stem, I use something like these stakes. I think you can find them at HD or Lowe's. You can make your own with clothes hangers or ask Santa to bing you a supply.

The only bloom that is on it just opened yesterday. There are 3 more unopened buds.

I think it will be fine, just don't jostle it which might make the crack larger.

You probably won't be able to sustain a seedpod if you had thoughts to pollinate it but I think your blooms will be ok. If you find the stem collapsing which I don't expect it will do, you can always cut the stem above the crack, fill the hollow stem with water and then into a container of water and the blooms should continue.
