Tile questions. Please help!

I am trying to figure out how the tiles on the water line should be. we have a rectangle pool with a love seat in the deep end. So lots of angles. Our PB installed tiles with wrong grout color and a big grout line, that was very inconsistent. Some were 1/4", some bigger and then some were really tight to fit tile in without making a cut. And corners were really big grout instead of matching up. So he is redoing the tiles.

Do you do the tile the same as interior tiles? Where you would start in the middle and make cuts on each end? Or just start at 1 side and just make 1 cut at other end? Also does anyone have pictures of the way their corners are? My PB tells me the way it was done is the industry standard. But agrees it looks awful. He just said most people do not notice it. And truthfully if it had the right grout I probably wouldn't of had him fix it either.

One other issue is where the raised bond beam meets the cement step. What would you do there? I'm attaching a picture, but its not a good one. When I get home I will take another one.

For some reason I couldn't attach photos to my original post. The bottom picture is of the raised bond beam where it meets the cement coping and step.

Can I ask the manufacturer and name of your tile? It looks very similar to NPT's Ridgeline multi-color that I was considering using on our pool.

Sometimes you can run them right around, in and out of the nooks with minimal trimming. Tape them up or carefully measure as a test to see if the tiles divide into the pool perimeter evenly. If you have to make an adjustment, the skimmer opening would be convenient.

If that's not possible I'd center them in the nooks, with a miter on the corner to avoid the big joint.

There are differences of opinion on grout width ... wider is easier to scrub the #^@! algae off. Really narrow gives it protected hideouts. But variably width is NOT acceptable.

Thanks for the advice. They did remove all the tile and replaced it, mitering the corners. And used the correct color grout, a medium gray. It looks amazing! I love it! I'm so happy we were persistent in making them replace it and also forcing the issue of using a new tile guy. I will attach a new picture.

dmgarrity~ The tile is from NPT but that is not the name. I will check and let you know. I love it with the gray grout. I will attach a picture for you when I get home.

luckydux, thanks for offering to check on the name of the NPT tile. I was sitting at my desk trying to decide on the tile and the pool color when your response came in. This whole process is quite stressful so any advice is much appreciated. Thanks!

I know! It's so hard to make these decisions! Here's the new pictures. Same tile. Just installed correctly and with a gray grout instead of white. I LOVE it!

Aqua Link~ What is the color of the pebble in the pictures above? I am thinking we are going with Double Blue Tahoe. But I still am not sure. Our pool is big. And gets full sun all day. So I want something with a deepish tone, but won't get too warm. Any suggestions?

@Aqua-Link. In the first photo you posted above, what is the brand of the charcoal tile on the spa? I really like it. Thank you.
