Marble Tile Matching

Hi all,

I'm looking for tiling experts. I have shower that needed the floor pan to be replaced, thus the first row was destroyed to make way for the replacement liner. The tile on the wall is 30 years old, and though I realize it's very difficult to match tiles, I can find absolutely nothing the way of a white Marble with gray/black thin bolts running through it. The closest I could find was a Calcutta but the kind I ordered ended up being basically plain white. Anyone have any input for me? The only other option I can think of is to tear down the first four rows instead and do a two tone but I'd rather find something that at least was close to this. Thanks!

What you have is a Carrara marble, that over the years has patina, resulting in the yellowing. Anything new will be whiter. You could bring up the herringbone tile from the floor (many places sell it. "carrara herringbone mosaic tile". Or how about doing a black marble to separate the two?

I can't find an exact picture, but something along this black tile against the carrara.

nothing this drastic, obviously,,,but just imagine the one black border along the bottom row

Can you find a plain white tile, a solid grey, or use the herringbone from the floor?

Thanks for the reply. Yes I considered using the marble you see there, but just being the first row out of 9 rows, I felt would appear to much like I tried and failed to match. The gray isn't a bad idea, but still would be very apparent that I only did it because I had to make a repair. If I did the gray I may just do waist high and put a border.

I've had a similar situation with a client last year. We used the mosaic on the shower pan and extended it up to the second row. That is if you can source the herringbone mosaic. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture to post but it did look purposeful and not like a repair or after thought.

Interesting, thank you Clint. So you carried the floor tile up two rows. More or less mimicking the shower liner out of floor tile? Just going up two rows instead of just one?

We ran the mosaic up to the bottom of the second row, looks like you have about 12"ish to tile. I won't disturb any more tile than you need to. You could even cap the mosaic off with a pencil liner or a chair rail to make the transition from mosaic to wall tile.
