If it were me... I would go with the Olive green that is in the chair or if that is to dark, then the cream color... I would try to stay away from yellow undertons though...Good Luck!!

I have used green before in my own house and it really makes the oak furniture look great also...

I saw a Moroccan spice color on accent wall and gray on others...that may work too with the color in pillow. Just don't want it to be too dark.

I think a nice silvery grey would work too. I also like the light blue idea, as long as it leans towards a grey/blue. A pale olive green would be nice if you can get it light enough as it would accent the green and contrast the red in the furniture very nicely. I agree that you should get rid of the curtains.

Thanks for all the great suggestions I really appreciate every bit of advice. Oh those curtains...yes they are definitely going and each pair in the other bedrooms...haha. They are still up from previous owners because we are not living in house yet...trying to paint first.

There is nothing like a nice butter yellow color to brighten a room. It makes everything pop. Paint the mantle and trim with a nice white. Just my ideas. Enjoy!

I am afraid the floor has to much orange in it to do grey or blue,maybe you could use cream (sherwin Williams) 6119 called antique white, then accent a large stripe about 18" around the room in one of the colors from the chair, you also need the sofa in the middle of the room, maybe put eating area and a wood serving counter on a wall,so cheap to do. And get some hanging lights in that ceiling.

Actually, orange and blue, as well as orange and grey could work well together. Here is a couple of examples. The only thing to worry about is if your furniture would work with one of these combinations as well, especially the chair with floral pattern. But, I suppose, you could unify everything through art and accessories, such as pillows. Best of luck putting it all together!... Got me,except that is a pretty orange,more vibrant than the floors seemed to me,what do I know.

Kitty, I did not mean to get you :-), it's just that I work with colors a lot and, based on my experience, a lot of color combinations can work if the shades and vibrancy levels are right, including the orange/grey and orange/blue combinations. The number of paints you find in stores these days is enourmous, so you can always find the one you need, it is just a matter of time and effort. That is why designers charge for their work, it does take time and effort to help you make the right choice and to make your room look good as a result.... Raisa

Just trying to be safe with someone new at this,I also work with color a lot and people who can't make it work,I could but I have the knowledge I was thinking if she need help,this would be much easier for her an flow with what she has in all those other colors going,just trying to help someone out

Personally, I'd stay right away from grey in a basement that gets little natural light, for fear of feeling as though I were in an underground bunker ! A nice pale blue will go well with the mottled sandy tone of the floor, I think and contrast well with your oranges and browns. A nice big sisal rug (or a plain rug in that sort of color) might help to lighten the look of heavy sofa, as would a selection of much paler cushions and some artwork in sky blue and sand with splashes of orange, perhaps, (come on IABWorld ! .. I know you have examples of every color combo known to man ! .. Love your stuff ! :-)

Give me a soft rug on those hard floors and long curtain panels I would feel more at home...

I'd also strip the coffee table down and do a bleached pine effect, if you're handy like that .. and if so, whilst at it, I'd paint out the two lamp/tables .. can't quite make out if they're all in one.

Mauve recliners ? They look to be a pinky wine red on my screen .. which goes great with pale blue and light taupe/sand.

Thanks again...haha All furniture seen was left by previous owners who were friends so anything can stay or go. I do know there is a lot of different pieces ...and hard to try and match. Yes Cozy Casita I really like the look of the basement in my ideabook but just wish my floors were hardwood like upstairs. I think walls would then look better.

Hello! I'd use wainscoting in white and trim out the walls and ceiling in white. Add the color of a very light pale grey with a tint of purple and that will brighten the room as well as accentuate and pop the current furniture colors as a whole.

Get some cheap pillows at a craft store and throw these covers on them to draw the color and floral into that area using these:

Those suggestions will not just brighten the space but make it appear more open.

The key to this room is the printed chair. It has the color combinations which you are looking for. I think I would stick with a soft, warm gold and use the orange and greens as accents in the room. White in any form is going to be too stark. I would suggest that you paint the walls in a flat or eggshell, all of the trim including doors in the same color as the walls but in a satin finish. This will make the walls seem taller. In addition, I would use 50% decorators white / 50% wall color on the ceiling in the same finish as the walls. This will be much more pleasing to the eye than white. I'd also paint the mantle in a black, satin finish to give it some interest. I'm a big fan of Benjamin Moore paints. You could even take a cushion from the chair to a dealer and have them match of the colors for you. Good Luck, post some finished pictures.

There are 6 million colors out in the world which would go with your room BUT, the first thing this room needs is a large area rug to anchor all the furniture. Once you find a rug which you love let the colors in the rug guide you toward what you want on the walls. right now everything is so muted it has no focal point. Hope this helps. I find Home Depot and Lowe's has the most wonderful selection of rugs.

What's on the back wall either side of the TV? Are those windows with blinds?

So, the furniture can stay or go. I think you could:
- change the tables to more modern ones
- rearrange the furniture
- get a rug
- either remove or definitely rearrange the paintings and hang them lower

I've just tried light blue in your room (Sherwin-Williams color visualizer) and for me it didn't work.
I did like 6405 Fervent Brass from Sherwin Williams, combined with Macadamia.

Do try colours out for yourself, it's fun to do and a great way to see different colours in your space.

If you paint that wall blue you will lock yourself into a cold looking room and it will not be a gain. Just my opinion. If you paint in any color it must have some reason to be there................. Sorry, you asked for ideas!

wow thanks once again for all the great suggestions I appreciate each and every one of them. Getting a nice rug is definitely my plan. I am now pulling out some colors from the decorative chair....there IS a lot play with there. Carolins...behind tv are some kind of shelves the previous owners had on the wall to put all the picture frames on?? They are going..lol.

No disrespect but what is wrong with current color. Your floor I think is gonna make it hard to go with a lot of different colors.
