Add a new chandelier.

Paint the picture frame around the wallpaper gray, as well. Do it in semi-gloss.

Thanks, you have a good eye to appreciate that fabulous wallpaper. I do think if you frame it in gray, it will become more of wall art than as it shows now. The rug I listed is $$$$, but I am sure you can find a gorgeous wool rug in the same color way for less.

Now for the chair seats. You can go crazy with that as the yardage will be small.

Nice paper, and good that your armoire isn't formal....the modern gold chandelier was a cool addition.

I like the darker blues, but my first thought was purple! But I do love purples with that light yellow and gray. Lots of possibilities! No black, I think that would kind of go low in a space that is more refined. Here is a chandelier I like for you.

Using the champagne metal would blend very nicely. this is small version of their larger size, but you get the idea. Both down and up light with this one.

I might replace the chairs with white if possible....to me the table and hutch go, but the chairs and chandelier are throwing it off a little.

Definitely punch it all up with silver...

While you're painting the furniture, try painting your light over the table the same off white.

And reupholster the chairs in cream and white stripes

The neutral navy Esmaili showed went with traditional furniture well.

The modernish wallpaper went with E.'s golden gleaming chandelier.

A medium blue is going too casual imo, but pcg has is it? a coastal vibe -- you like a cheerful or coastal???

Read your initial post again - I wouldn't do end chairs. The interesting wp is enough with all else too. I think the navy breaks up the yellow as you said. You like navy? is it in your house? Maybe another dark neutral that's good with yellow: possibly muted/dark green...

I really wouldn't paint the china cabinet...it takes away from the wallpaper, which I think deserves to be center stage.

My vote is, as I said, to change out the chairs.

The hallway is edgecomb gray and the seat fabric has to be changed so I'm open to suggestions. I will put some of the rug suggestions from above into photoshop

I feel like a charcoal gray velvet would be fabulous...

Keeping the value of your home is also a good idea and mixing it with a modern look is great as well.

I have 2 options

I would paint over the yellow with either the cream or taupe-y gray from the wallpaper before doing anything else. You could do it yourself with just one coat just to get a clean slate and then have it professionally painted when you make your final decisions. The yellow is distracting and I don't see any reason to work around it. I would get it out of the equation.


I like the wallpaper and I don't find it dated at all.

Before committing to painting all of the furniture, consider: staining the base of the table (black), a new chandelier, replacing the wallpaper panels with something to bridge the traditional/contemporary divide, and replacing the hardware on the hutch with a more contemporary profile in black. Refresh the furniture finish (wipe down with mineral spirits followed by a dawn dishwashing solution - find directions online)

that chandelier would cost a very pretty penny, alll glass arms... never cheap. (just fyi)

I thnk you need to de clutter the hutch, r, take out the table leaf, and the small cabinet in the corner.

the blue rug posted near the top is awesome. a simple chandelier, NOT gold would be great. Start by removing the shades from the one you have. you could even paint that one, white . stack some painting over the wallpaper in a couple sections.

White and black would play extemely well in there. Or you can play into a blue pallet.

If you aren't married to the furniture, I would paint it all a very light color and go with a Swedish design look.

I tried a grey (these are all returnable) for the chairs and rug but it is reading brown to me. I guess I have to look for greys that are lighter with more blue undertones?

blue is a better color so maybe more toward slate blue. maybe dark navy captains chairs

Accuracy!? Is the rug quite blue? If so that could lead to tiny accent of blue, but I like your chairs -- greige? -- from here, they blend. And do the chairs blend with wp some? Merry Christmas.

Grays definitely better with your chairs and wall décor. Remove the table cloth piece because it distracts too much. A nice long tray with a couple of candles and a nice flower arrangement is where you could bring some blues in. Hydrangeas are a perfect flower for this room. Here are some ideas:

I love tulips and order red ones for my Christmas table! Dear in $$$ but love them. Also, did you know, that the reason the tulips "droop" is from too much water! Yes, I have tested this and it works. You only put about 2" of water in the bottom of your container. They stay standing up much better. Of course if you want them drooping then add more water. Their stems absorb a ton of water and that is what weighs down the blossoms! Tip of the Day! Merry Christmas!

PCG...this is my take on your dining room..still traditional with a contemporary touch..to give it a cheerful updated feel....I would just continue to only layer yellow and white to keep it clean and crisp. Would you be willing to paint out the back of your China cabinet in a bright white...it would look so pretty!

Good Morning pcg19.......so glad you like my suggestions! Here are both of the lights...the one you like is 24" diameter so it is a good size if your table is no wider than 48". If it is wider I would consider something larger in Diameter...I can help you with that.

Just found this 30" sphere chandelier ...great price same type finish..and if you like oversized lighting (I like larger lighting) I don't always just go by the rules:)......this will work even if your table is 48" wide..it has a very open simple shape not heavy.

I like larger lighting. Do you think 24" is too small for the space? If I was to get white end chairs and the yellow and white fabric you showed (where is that from?) should I paint the chairs the same color as the end chairs?

I would leave all your wood chairs the way they are...wait until the entire room is done.... with the white host chairs..new lighting...rug and perhaps painting the back of the inside of China cabinet white.....than you can decide if it is necessary....What fabric is on your chair cushions?

A great chandelier with wonderful art glass would be great in that space. definitely a conversation starter. All our products are American Made and made to order. Here is another idea.
