not fruiting fig

I have move two roots cutting to what I call Fig Hill- a raise area in my garden and boarding it is a swale. I planted the roots some time ago both from the same tree. Neither is very large, one gives me figs and so far the other has not. Are there trees that never bare or should I just wait?

How long have you had them? Many fig tree cuttings will not fruit the first year. Most people on the fig-centric boards will pull a tree if its not fruiting by year 4 or 5. Fruiting can depend on a lot of things. Have you tried pinching the ends of new growth? After a branch puts out 5-6 leaves, pinch the tip to encourage fruit formation and further branching.

It's probably been planted for 5 years. I will try pinching to see what happens this summer and if nothing will pull it!

Give them 2 inches of compost and plenty of mulch and see if that doesn't fix it.
