Funny stuff - share yours. Please.

DH is just finishing up the knotty cypress ceiling in our entry. He is not a knotty kind of guy, prefers knot free wood, select hardwood floors and so on, but I dug my heels in and he gave in. Every single board with sizable knots I had to specifically say 'do not trim this out - I want this knot' or they wouldn't be there. Well..... funny guy this husband of mine. See that large knot to the right of the hole for the ceiling light, near the wall?

Here, I've marked it for you.

And the close up.

That's our youngest son. He was here helping for the first 6 months of our build but has been back in CO since and DH didn't want him to feel left out.

Please tell me you have funny stuff going on - please!

The funniest thing about my build is finding out your son, (the one in the knot) and my daughter met in Israel and became such close friends.

I love your hubby's sense of humor!

    And that's another one, cp!

And even though you and I had been in touch before we knew our kids knew one another, it helped solidify our friendship (much to the consternation of our kids.) Muhahaha!

That ceiling is gorgeous. I love the knots. So glad you talked him into it.

but, please explain. Is that an actual picture in that knot?

Ilovered that's a copy of a picture of our son. I don't honestly know if he glued or taped it to the ceiling or to the backside of the knot. Some information is above my pay grade!

I can't think of anything particularly funny about our build. We placed state quarters in the concrete at various stages of the build so we'd never be broke. CT to represent my roots, FL for where we came from, and SC for where we are. I also stamped the year of our build in the basement floor.

I do have a funny story about a friend of mine. He bought a picnic table for the workers to sit and have lunch. He intentionally placed it well away from the house so they wouldn't use it as a work bench. One day, he went to the site to discover that it was gone without a trace. Not in the dumpster. Not moved elsewhere on the site. He was so mad, thinking that they had stolen it, when he looked up at the porch roof framing, and there it was, dismantled and used for framing! He didn't think it was funny at the time, though.

bwahahaha, made me LOL, you have great eyes. I love knots too.

madpebs87 those are my son's eyes but I do think he looks like me ;-)

mushcreek that is really funny about the picnic table! And I'm sure the friend wasn't happy at the time - hope he can laugh about it now. At least it wasn't something he MADE for you - that would be awful!

I threw pennies into our foundation for luck - did the same thing when my parents built the house where I grew up. I placed a penny from the year we married in the threshold of the people door of our garage workshop...... literally - and it got covered by the door threshold :-( Poor planning. For the house I wanted pennies from all of our birth years but finding mine and my husband's was tough. I kept getting rolls of pennies at the bank and searching but no luck. Finally did a crowd source on FB and asked people to keep an eye out, look in their penny jars etc. It only took a few days, my SIL's brother in West Milton, OH had their mom's penny jar (and she passed away close to 30 years ago) and found both our pennies. We're going to countersink all of them into the porch post closest to our front door.

Imagine a future buyer, years from now, spotting that photo ... that might be a bit scary!

Just found out today that he tucked his business card behind another knot - will have to get a pic of that one, too.

Chispa, I thought the same thing. Years and years down the road, someone new buying the house, moving in, loving it, changing a light bulb and gazing around while up on the ladder and OMG!!!!!!!

Funny stuff...OK, here's my retirement business: I'll maintain your lawn on a monthly contract. I can get started as soon as you sign and return the hold harmless agreement.

For an extra fee, I also remove droppings.

It's interesting how something that wasn't funny at the time becomes funny in the telling after the fact. I was living in our barn while I built the house. I got up one morning and walked into the house to start work, and heard growling. I looked up to see two stray pit bulls camped out in my future living room! I hastily retreated, and tried to figure out a safe way to get them to leave. They were laying right in front of our largest and most expensive window (not yet installed), so throwing rocks or shooting at them was out of the question. They weren't impressed by my shouting and threats. I finally left for the lumber yard, and when I got back, they were gone.

I hastily made some plywood panels to block the openings!

What is it about construction sites that the idea of private property is different than with a completed house? I understand neighbors being curious but for heaven's sake, ASK!! As for boys exploring...... hopefully it was just that. Keep in mind that that plenty of people on this board alone have had break-ins and theft, including yours truly

several teenage boys took off running

During one of my in-fill builds, a neighbour noticed the same sort of partying in the basement and yelled at them to break it up. In their rush to leave, one of them dropped a very nice sterling silver bracelet that one of my flashier sons really appreciated receiving.

Ah, VC and his strange fascination with those odd-toed ungulates.

I admit I was annoyed at the time but we haven't had any issues since so hopefully it was a one time event. My husband found it more amusing than me in the moment.

Our previous house had been owned by a family I knew. We all had a friend from HS who was an artist, so when we peeled off wallpapers and found charming murals in the kitchen and bathroom we weren't surprised. But then we peeled off the wallpaper in the powder room, to slowly reveal cowboy boots, a saloon door, a hat above it, and two eyes peering between the slats of the saloon door. A bit freaky, but funny.
