Hey everyone

This is the first time for me growing kale on my farm. It just so happens that I am trying the crop on some newly acquired land as well.

I have a little over 800 winterbor, grown from seeds and transplanted at about 8 weeks. The soil tests for the new land came back a little out of balance with too high of a potassium ratio and the CEC was a little low, so water and nutrients flush a little quick. The pH was 6.1 before amendments. Current daytime temperatures here right now are between 4 and 12 Celsius with nights between -2 and 5. I am not using row covers. The plants are spaced at 45cm and were hilled once. I apply a medium strength organic liquid fertilizer (6-8-4) every 2-3 weeks.

They have been giving what I assume to be a decent though slow harvest and I harvest larger, lower leaves first and remove all yellowed or otherwise unhealthy leaves.

Two weeks ago I noticed that the "fringe" or edges of the leaves have a slightly yellow cast to them. We have had a somewhat dry last couple months, but I try to get some water to them when I can. My first assumption was lack of nitrogen, but after my initial amendments, a couple light side dressings and now the liquid application I would assume the nutritional needs are being met. The pH started at 6.1 and after my amendments should be close to 6.5-6.8 (I haven't checked since the initial). The temperatures are not that cold so I think that the nutrients are available for uptake. I really don't know what the deal is but I am not real comfortable sending this out to customers with the yellow tinted edges. Any ideas? Anyone have experience with this or winterbor? Thanks!
