I've got yippie dogs. Minis schnauzer and Dixie. They shiver easily and dont seem to mind silly sweaters. They're going to OK much colder than they're used to. I was actually thinking about getting baby socks but what protection would they offer?

Sounds like fun! Honestly, from the looks of most booties I've seen, the doggy ones don't seem to offer much more than the infant but they are shaped better. The ones I got for my lab were pretty thin, but even if they protect their paws from salt exposure, then I'd guess that it's probably worth it. My sister uses a stroller for her small dogs. I thought she'd gone off the deep end when she told me, but with all the glass and crud on the walk ways at the beach, it made sense.

Our lab is my first experience with the breed and she's completely stolen my heart. :c)

I bought a few different varieties over the years for my dogs. More to help in frigid cold temperatures than anything else. My previous dog Lily, a shepherd/aussie mix had these huge paws, and the boots fit her well. She didn't mind them and they worked well.

My other dog Rocky (my photo), is a smooth coated collie mix with very thin paws. If I put the boots on him and he steps in the snow, the boots are going to slide right off his paws since they are the same width as his leg.

I'm thinking Shiloh, the female I have now, will be the same way. She's a border collie/shepherd mix.

If you do get them, be careful that they have some sort of tread where they step. One pair I had were really smooth on the bottom and poor Lily did a lot of sliding around in the snow.

My only experience with them was with Murray, also my photo. He was a collie/beagle mix. He did NOT like those boots, but the salt on the street burned his feet to where he could not stand up. I had to carry him home the first time it happened and he weighed 45 pounds. So I made him wear them. But I spent our whole walk, every time, having to watch his feet because in snow of any measurable depth, the boots would stick in the snow and come off. It was very annoying. I ended up taking to walking in the neighbors front yards and keeping him off the street as much as I could.

My cats hate them. I'm sure it's just their personalities, but they meowled at us until we removed them. :) Plus they came off when the two were running in the snow... I wouldn't recommend for all cats.... Our past dog, Lola, who passed away last October, was fine with them the year before. Our other dog Sokka is way too big for those booties, so we buy the salt that is safe for dogs' pads.

We do in the winter due to long exposure, and not a super winter happy dog. We did do lots of training with him to get him ok with wearing them.

I've only used them with my huge-footed lab, when there was a crust of ice on top of the snow, which would cut up his pads. He loved them, because when I put them on, he knew he would get to play in the snow! More than once he picked them up from the closet floor and dropped them in my lap.

Dog mushers use them all the time, But again, these are much bigger dogs. I'm not sure how well they would work on tiny dog paws.

My pitt mix hates them but I'm going to try using them again because her paw pads get burned from the salt that's used to melt snow.

You can always order them and have your dog wear them indoors to see how s/he does in them. If your dog hates them, return them. Amazon has a pretty generous return policy.

I tried baby socks on my border collie mix. They came off one by one when we got out in the snow. Then I got some of that stretchy tape that vets use to wrap a leg after drawing blood. I wrapped it around the top of the socks and they stayed on.

I am not sure how much good they do. I think the main issue is only when its powder and cakes around her pads, so I think the socks will prevent that.

I got the baby socks but It didn't get cold enough to use them, so they sit on the doggie supply shelf til next year

got booties from REI for our mastiff, she does not like them but wears them in the snow or on the gravel roadway.
