Yes I've read those. I like that the styline comes with a metal bowl and is slightly more powerful. Bosch has had several of their mixer products come and go over time and while the styline seems to be very popular in Europe I can't find much about it in the US. Since they are not really marketing it very well (or at all) I wonder if they will just end up discontinuing it before it had a chance to get off the ground.

I recently got the Bosche Universal Plus and am really pleased with it. There is no chugging at all, even with very stiff dough. It handles large batches well which was important for me, and the dough hook extender works well for smaller batches. I'll admit that it's not as attractive as my old KA mixer, but it outperforms it.

Melis, how heavy is it compared to the KA?

I have also used the Bosch Universal Plus for a number of years. I make my own ground 100% whole wheat bread with it as well as many other things. I store it on the counter in a corner similar to Melis. I really like mine.

When my no-longer-loved KA finally dies (or when our kitchen is done if there's room left in the budget (HA!)) I'm getting what used to be called a magic mill but is now sold as Ankarsrum Assistent. It's not light..almost 20#...or cheap...$700...but is magical with bread and works well with smaller batches too. And it comes in pretty colors!

The reviews that I have read on the Bosch universal plus is that it really need 7-8 cups as a minimum or it doesn't function very well. that amount is in my maximum range as usually use 1 kg of water/starter and 1 kg of flour (approximately 8 cups of flour or 4.4 lbs of dough). My recipe makes two very large loaves and that is more than enough for our needs.

i can fantasize anout the ankarsrum but I cannot afford that.

I make smaller batches with it too and have made just 1 or 2 loaves of bread. For me it works best making about 4 to 6 regular size loaves of bread. But I use it for whipped cream or egg whites etc. I thought you could get a smaller bowl attachment for this, which I don't have, but I may be wrong. I have the grater, slicer food processor attachment as well and use it a fair bit.
