Try to pick up on that color in adjacent rooms. You don't necessarily have to paint the walls, if you don't really want to. Maybe you could use the same color with some of your accessories.

table runner on the table instead of placemats - use several runners in a woven pattern

paint the fireplace too. I agree in adding a bigger print above the mantle, and remove the accessories on it. Remove water cooler as well.

not doing it for me.....the 'cool' color takes over. With all that wood, I would've gone with a warmer tone (like a peanut butter shade, or an orange 'hue' or a richer golden color). I've seen that electric blue in kids' rooms'......hmmm...I don't know, and as for painting brick...NEVER. So Brady bunch 60's.
