There are many canna this could be. How tall does your canna get? Is it sparse in flowering especially during cooler summers? And are those the flowers it produces?

A dead visual ringer for your canna is C. indica 'Red Stripe', grows to 8' tall, see: http://plantlust.com/plants/8401/canna-indica-red-stripe/.

If your canna gets taller eg to 10'++ and blooms in frequently then there is a Canna musafolia that looks much like this.

Thanks for your time in identifying the cannas in my picture. I have researched the net trying to identify this plant and I agree with you the plant is Canna indica "Red Stripe". It gets 8' - 10' tall. Flowers only once in the summer to early fall.

For tall contrast in the yard, if you have room, add the giant green variety called musifolia 'Grande'

and 'Australia', plum red and narrow leafed.

The musifolia don't bloom well in cooler climates. You could use yours as backdrops and put smaller Canna in front for floral effect. For instance, I'm using 'Durban' = 'Phason' = 'Tropicana', green leafed Lobelia cardinalis 'Starship Scarlet (grown from Burpee seeds), dark leafed cardinalis 'Queen Victoria' in my yard, in front of an 8' tall Joe Pye Weed 'Gateway'. There's a dark 'Australia' behind to the left, in front of a white hydrangea paniculata.

The design principle is using contrasting vertical accents. These visual elements also harmonize the dark brown sided shed in an otherwise green yard.

Notice your eyes will travel between the dark reddish similar elements, then the green series, then back. This pulls one's attention (and enjoyment) through the yard.

Bold statement? Yes ... but life is short and your 'Red Stripe' choice indica(tes) that you like visual impact already.

Consider also contrasting "day versus night". We use night fragrance and white suspended color accents that you can see from a distance to pull one out to investigate the moonlight garden phase. Brumansia 'Little Angel' (near our hammock), Nicotinia alata and white lilies are great for this.

and Japanese Windflowers. The Windflowers aren't fragrant, but they bloom in mass at a time when other flowers are ebbing and they move, visually showing the breeze patterns. It's a sort of a hypnotic combination.

Should also mention that indica 'Red Stripe' in sun should have those distinct red stripes and margin.

Another great variety with a little more red flushing in the leaves is indica 'Red Russian' see photos. With less sun one could mistake it for 'Red Stripe'.

It looks like the dark red stem stripe in the center of either leaf shows best from the backside. .

'Red Russian' is considered strong growing indica 'purpurea' with wider leaves. Can't lose either 'Red Stripe' or 'Red Russian'! Both get huge.
