I've spent hours looking at Sacred Garden's offerings but never seriously considered contacting them because of the distance, not to mention the international shipping charges, or if they even could ship to the U.S. Has anyone here ordered from them?

That may be your best bet. Hopefully they can point you towards a similar scented compact.

I have a Celadine I started from a cutting in 1998. Frost,root rot in ground (or gophers) and then potted for almost all those years,has held it to about ~4x3,not many side branches after the whole root system was lost about 4 years ago.

But its fine now..still trying to flower with lows in the low 30's and days in the mid 50's. Soaking wet from the rains.

She's a good one,if you only were to have one Plumeria.

Celandine does smell great, tho according to many experts there are about sixteen variations of what we think of as Celadine. I think some are more compact than others. I really like Dwarf Deciduous White for compact size and scent, similar to the creamy lemon scent of Celadine, and the blooms are huge.

Celadine can be kept pretty bushy. I found these in SoCal.

I went out and snapped off two leafs from two different Plumeria that never had a name. One- shiny larger leaf,was a cutting given to me that was bought in Hawaii. The other- duller (double vein!) smaller leaf,I bought at Walmart 4 to 5 years ago. Both are about 3' and 3' wide. Uh,maybe a little less then my first estimate-wink.

I can tell you that I prefer the fake Celadine's large glossy leafs,larger flower and purer color. I like that the real Celadine has shown vigor for me in a mild summer climate. As you can see- both still have some foliage despite lows in the 30's so far.

"Real" Celadine.smaller in leaf and flowers also. So,yes I guess better for long term less room needs.

I'm glad you posted the picture from Maui Plumeria Gardens, Petuniafish! I was going to order a Celadine from them. I don't know what's more important to me- the pedigree, or the fragrance. Well, I guess it's the fragrance. How do I know the flowers of the lei I always get (directly upon arrival in Hawaii, even before finding a restroom) are from a true Celadine or just a "Common Yellow"?

In this specific instance I would buy based on flower, fragrance, growth habits and not necessarily worry about the pedigree. However knowing the pedigree may not be accurate should drive a better purchase price for you.

While not confirmed I am pretty sure many of the leis come from farms on the big island and Molokai. Many of the trees are quite mature and date back quite a few years so I would suspect they pre-date much of the recent hybridization trends and are or are quite close to a pure Celadine. All of this is supposition on my part but something to consider.

Nancy, I have got a couple that have a weak 2nd leaf margin like you posted too. They still bloom great and are wonderful to enjoy.
