Congrats. It's an absolute beuty. So rich in blooms. Also like the idea that it's so compact.

It is really nice and the Hybridiser hit the jackpot because it is half Cymbidium madidum which has large pseudobulbs and leaves up to 90 cm long.

Not going into this warm stuff too much but there are some Cym. hybrids that are difficult to flower in places that have warm summer nights. Cym. madidum is found to the north of here up into the tropics, where the climate makes growing most Cymbidiums difficult and they are no longer the dominant feature in orchid collections.

I didn't realize Cymbidium madidum was that large. This one is definitely more manageable.

Ohio's summer night temperatures average in the low 60s, which is pretty mild. My challenge tends to be the cool down period to initiate spikes in the fall to winter. The cool greenhouse definitely helped this year.

We do not worry about the "cool down" here and I do not know the extent of the cool down required because I have nil Cymbidiums. At the local orchid society where I am the dogsbody and the benching marshal I have added a fourth Cymbidium Class. The Classes are related to the size of the flower.

Anyway, Santa Barbara is Cymbidium heaven in the USA and the lovely cold Pacific Ocean is the main reason for that.

As far as your bloom goes, it has what one of the old time orchid judges used to call Charm and Distinction.

I do not know what triggers flowering in Cymbidium madidum, but it flowers in late spring/early summer in its range where the "winter" is even more pathetic than here.

The Cool Down is necessary for many because of the influence of Cymbidium lowianum which contributes the red V in the lip of many hybrid blooms.
