Noid again

Forgive me for dragging this through the mud again. I really like this violet. I bought the original plant from violet barn 12 or 13 years ago. I thought it was Boolaroo but we have determined that it isn't. Rob said he didn't know what it is. Does anybody have an idea? It's a semi min trailer. I'd love to move it from my noid list to my named variety list. Maybe it sported somewhere along the line and I will never know. This is my last ditch effort. Thanks.

Wow .... it's a winner, ... but if Rob said that he didn't know ...

That's what I was afraid of but I'm not ready to give up yet. Will try some more! If anyone has an idea let me know!

What about robs dust storm? Does anyone have it? Does it look like this?

It looks like trailer to me. Rob's Dust Storm is a semi mini- and again - leaves are wrong.

I am not sure that there many plants with a splash fantasy flowers. It happens occasionally but is hard to stabilize. There is a new standard trailer from Paul Sorano - "Enchaning Waterfall" that consistently throws splash fantasy. Older unregistered Dennis Croteau hybrid "Pretty Miss Kelly" has variable fantasy and often throws flowers with fantasy sections.

I did use a "splash fantasy" name - I am not sure what is a proper terminology for this type - we know streak fantasy, puff fantasy - so... can be splash...

My take - it is a pretty sport, thin leaves remind me of some of the older trailers... probably closer to species... Enjoy it as it is, call it Ken's Folly Splash and grow it huge!

Lol! Thanks for the advice Irina. Thought I would take one more go of it! I know for sure I bought it from rob but maybe it's sported. I will grow it huge and then take another pic of it. Maybe Rosie will add it to her wish list! To grow a trailer correctly it needs at least three crowns - right? And we don't plant multiple plants to a pot, correct? Thanks again Irina! Ken

i have no idea if this is possible but if you grow a couple of generations of this ...will it possibly revert back to the original plant ? ..then at least you would know that this is a sport of that plant?

or maybe you've already done that since it's over 12 years old. If so at least it's stable.

At the very least it's an amazing, stunning and beautiful trailer ... I would say enjoy it and be proud of it because you ""caused"" it to exist. :)

please keep us informed i'd love to know what is happening with this plant. :)

Texted my friend that I got the leaf of this plant from. I gave it to her about 12 years ago. I asked her if the plant that I gave her on her windowsill ever had "splash" fantasy on it's blooms and she says it never has. So, we will keep it growing and see what it does in the future. Funny, another of it's "siblings" from leaf propagation is about another third larger with no blooms whatsoever on it. Must be and unstable sport. Hopefully it will work out! Ken

:) great can you get photos of those 2 plants then ? maybe that will give you a clue ...it's so frustrating cause you're so close ...it came from Robs and so it's a named plant that sported ... so interesting. In the twelve years have you started lots of these plants? Or is this plant the original one from 12 years ago?

I had 20 or so plants 12 years ago. Shared leaves and plants among friends. Gave a leaf to a friend. She started it. I started a little collection a few months ago. I asked for a leaf. She gave me three. Started them. One seemed to throw this sport. Waiting for them all to grow and we will see. Next time I visit our friend I'll post a picture of the original too. Or... she could send me a pic!
