Peel the bulb until you get white/greenish, smooth flesh. Plant the bulb to a depth of about the widest part of the bulb. Use damp, not wet, potting material and make sure it the planter has holes for the water to drain out of. Over watering will cause rot. It will usually take a bit for roots to form, but these bulbs tend to be fairly hardy! Bulb kits are notorious for having bulbs that don't match what should be in the kit! Don't be too surprised if you end up with something other than Minerva.

I ended up planting the bulb as is I didn't peel it. Is peeling it really necasery? And I have sent a photo of the kit it came in. Hope its Minerva lol if not I'll love whatever color it is

Peeling the loose skin is just a good habit to get into when acquiring a new bulb. Mainly, to check the health of the bulb under the skin and just to make sure there aren't any spots of rot of deep bruises or insects (which most likely there wouldn't be on a new bulb) plus, it makes the bulb look so much neater don't you think!!☺☺ Not necessary but nice....

The outer layer will darken up and make a nice tight covering. I don't like the looks of the old outer layer at all. Looks like it possibly had mites. Loose layers are a great place for bugs to hide and moisture to collect. Better off peeling and starting from scratch. Since there are no roots, be prepared to stake the scape so the bulb doesn't tip over due to the weight of the blooms.

Mites??? Crap I hope not! It was in a kit at Walmart in the box. Crap its planted now amongst my other plants, dam now my other plants will have mites? I had no idea it looked like it has mites??? What about the bulb made u think it has mites??

Jay...note I used the past tense..."had mites". Just looking at the bumps and scars on the dark brown outer layer were suggestive of a problem in the past. I can't say I'm sure it's fine now, but if you peeled off all the loose layers, it's probably fine. To import bulbs, they have to be pest free. That doesn't mean all are, but you should be fine. I was just giving more reason for peeling the layers.

I'm sure by now you realize that with this "hobby" things happen. I know you've had frustrations in years past with RC and K (seller in China). I hope that things are looking up for you.

Ya RC has bad rep shipping to Canada because here in Canada were not allowed buying bulbs from USA or over seas...I still do lol USA eBay sellers just declare them as lawn ornaments and they always pass customs... However RC claims they ship to Canada. They don't include the legal papers so both times CBSA seized my orders!!! CBSA officer called me informed me on my end since I live in Canada I have to aqquire import permits which take weeks through the govt and cost thousands of dollars they told me....no thanks. CBSA said they r also contacting seller (RC) AND they said they r informing RC of the Canadian import laws on bulbs. So I believe by next year RC won't b shipping to Canada nemore. They got warned twice already by CBSA. Both times my orders got seized. So all u USA ppl enjoy ur nice unusual amaryllis cuz if u lived here in lame Canada u wuddnt b allowed to buy amaryllis bulbs online from USA or Intl. It sucks trust me

Like I said I find the odd seller who declares them as lawn ornaments provided I assume full responsibility if seized. Gotta love lame Canada. I wish I lived in USA so I can click online order any amaryllis I see. Must be nice
