window credit info

I am building a new home. standard dining room window in dining room is a double 6 foot vinyl. I ordered an additional transom window for over the 6 foot windows and lowering the window one foot to accommodate a total of 7 foot of window. for $500. extra The contractor ordered and installed a double 5 foot window with 2-attached small windows. a total of 6 foot of window. The contract drawing shows the standard double window and states plus transom and the pricing sheet states 6 foot vinyl windows as standard. and states add transom window over the double window. The contractor now states I did not specify it on contract. Do I have a legitimate claim for a credit of $500.

Your description doesn't sound like you made your intensions very clear since I couldn't understand them and you didn't show any revision documents or say how you documented the changes .

To answer your question, we would have to see the original drawing and/or spec and the revised drawing and/or spec and be sure the contractor got that information.

In my long experience with window orders I have found that the only way to get the windows you want is to check the window order yourself and initial every page before a copy of it goes to the manufacturer. I've never checked one that didn't have a serious mistake in it. This is the contractor's responsibility but I have learned the hard way to not rely on the contractor alone. If you prefer to let the contractor check the order, you need to revise the contract documents so the change is very clear and the contract is enforceable.

So, in addition to showing us a photo of the wrong window, show us the revised drawing of the correct one or the window schedule where the model numbers were changed or the change order/bulletin that described the change or any other evidence that would support your claim.

Like JDS said, best to go over it all with the GC. I spent 2 1/2 hours with our GC's window guy yesterday and found several mistakes, including the fact he had never been given the updated plans I signed off on back in July!

Where are the window schedules before and after the change is made?

this is all that specified the windows.

Do you do you have a set of drawings with all the window sizes marked?

    +100

It is always a screwup: The typos, poorly copied sizes where whoever sent the order copied height from one window and width from another, receptionists decided to spell check windows sizes, the company screws up reading the openings size instead of windows size, wrong tempered windows, wrong egress windows, wrong windows mulled, "orders interpreted" by a sales person, and even IF everything right on the order: company ships at least one window of a wrong size.

If you drive by custom home construction and you see a house with all windows but one - this is why. I used massive manufactures for windows and cabinets - so they could be swapped fast.

I did not get a window schedule. this house is pre constructed and same as other houses built in development. except I wanted an additional transom window installed over d.r. double window. as an extra
