I could just put a lamp on that end table? I like to place a little gold, but it does look like you already have a silver one. and some believe you should not mix metals. I will give you a set of each. you can pick and choose.

Agree with the larger rug. You have wonderful furniture but the room can look cold because of the tile floor. Adding an 8 x 10 or 9 x 12 would warm it up and define your living room area.

Some simple drapes would also help. Light fabric, nothing heavy.

Some ideas for you to try: Try the sofas perpendicular with one (the one currently nearest your DR) facing the tv. Place the floor lamp on the end nearest the tv (the sofa facing the DR). Buy an end table and lamp and place between the two sofas. Turn the coffee table so that the length follows the floating sofa, centered on the tv console. Place some magazines and seasonal stuff on it. Hang your tv to a good viewing height. This may allow some decorations to be placed atop the console (a platter filled with decorative balls, for example, and a few stacked books). Place a large floor plant in a beautiful pot in the corner nearest the tv, where you currently have a chair. Take those two chairs and place them where the sofa was, facing into the LR room. Add another end table/lamp between them. Buy two area rugs (I would match them to unify the spaces) for both LR and DR (google size guidelines). Pull your chairs out from the table several inches to better define that space. Buy two upholstered chairs (skirted parsons chairs, for example) to flank the china hutch and provide extra seating. Try switching your silver vase with the lantern. Place a cascading plant (philodendron. i.e.)in a pretty pot to the left side of the top of the hutch, wth the lantern beside and a bit behind it, and another pretty object (maybe seasonal) that is smaller in mass than the lantern, placed between. Perhaps you can find a dressier fan that complements your space and pleases your hubby! Good luck!

Here are some rugs that you may like under the cowhide. My first pick was the the last post. Another pick was a wool heathered (dark) brown on Overstock. I think I would like the dark brown or the patterned last post for the greater amount of contrast and to ground the seating area.

For wall art, I looked for tribal wall hangings and carved wooden plaques, but was unable to download. May also find a piece of fabric that is interesting enough to frame, ie woven or embroidered pieces. Novica has imported items.
