Can you be more specific about your scope of work? If you happen to work on a rainy day and it involves getting muddy, I seriously doubt you'll want to wear your work shoes on a date.

For gardening I have shoes that I can hose down after a particularly dirty day. I'd keep a pair of nice flats in the car in case any social event comes up

if you are working at a plant nursery, not really getting down and dirty in garden beds, any comfy pair of shoes will do for work into social situations.

Gardening is often a wet and dirty pastime. It can also be tough on your feet, not to mention cold. Whatever you may decide to wear gardening you would NOT want to wear out in the evening or on a date!!

There are various brands of gardening shoes that will work for most purposes. Muck Boots and Sloggers are two brand names that are widely available. Not inexpensive but durable and long lasting. If you are doing heavy clearing (chopping down trees or brush), heavy soil work or something like hardscape installation, then you want to look for waterproof, steel-toed work boots.

Well the job takes place at a senior living home. Its mostly about managing all plants in the property in the warmer seasons, maintaining equipment and some extreme snow shoveling in the winter time, working with senior volunteer gardeners, and keeping the outdoor property clean and safe. So yes I will probably be working in the snow and rain where its going to be wet. Ok I will look into muck boots and sloggers. But would hiking shoes from timberland or columbia also work? I've always been wearing them for gardening but not sure if they are the right shoes for gardening.

You are going to be busy! I don't know enough to recommend a particular brand, but my main considerations are:

comfort

durability though not so heavy that my feet get tired from the weight

easy to wash and quick to dry (or have 2 pairs)

timberland or Columbia would work but too nice to be in the garden, IMO
