First timer needs a bit of advice.

Hey all,

I recently got an Amaryllis bulb kit, and I have a couple questions.

  1. My biggest question: What kind of soil to use? I know there have got to be people on here with tried and true mixes, and just telling what you use always helps. (DISCLAIMER: I have used the search bar) The kit just comes with a pellet of I am assuming peat/coir/what ever else they put in it. I am also assuming that this is not the best thing you can put a bulb in. I do have a few amending ingredients: Turface, granite, and perlite.
  2. What kind of lighting is recommended? I will be growing these indoors, as a houseplant, and supplemental lighting is a have-to-have. Do I have to go crazy with MH or HPS lamps, or can I just use a fluorescent?

Well, that is all I can think of for the moment. Thanks for taking the time!

Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.
