Here is a tutorial on the split quarter square triangles. Make them whatever size you like then add borders.

I am going to make one of these. Yesterday, I decided I need to make one more table runner. This time I am going to try to teach myself how to do stipple stitch or meandering to quilt it. For ever, I wanted to learn this. I watched a number of videos yesterday and practiced a little. Still am not sure how to get the right squiggle for the meandering.

For years I have just stitched around the pattern or stitch in the ditch.

Any advice would be welcomed at this point.

You're welcome! :) You'll soon learn to see a block as made up of smaller units. Once you figure out the units it's easy to see how they are put together into the larger block.

Use a dry erase marker and board to practice on before you actually quilt. You can always use an air disappearing pen to mark the quilt.

good idea, I was practicing on just some paper before using some fabric and WW to get the actual feel. I am not sure at this point how to be moving my pen around on my paper or on the fabric. I do not know how long to sew before making a curve.

I will just keep playing with the design. I think I will review some of the videos again today before practicing again.

Once you're comfortable with a marker, you can practice on your machine with an old dull needle and a piece of paper. Doodling by moving the paper instead of the pencil/pen/marker has a different feeling.

I am ready to try the stippling on a table runner I sewed last night.

I sewed up a quick pattern and will try the pattern for the Split QT another day.
