NEWBIE SEED PROJECT NEEDS DONATIONS

NEWBIE SEED PROJECT / UPDATE

December 30, 2016

This year (as last), I started the Newbie seed offerings early in October. In December alone, I've had 24 requests and sent out most of those packages already. And I thought December would be a SLOW month!!

I would GREATLY appreciate any seed donations if you have extra seeds you would like to donate to the newbies to help get them started. I need both vegetable/herb/edible seeds as well as flowers, but am currently out of enough veggie seeds to offer the newbies, and can only offer the flowers that I still have left.

If you dont have any seeds, but would like to donate ziploc or paper seed packets ready to fill, address size labels for labeling seeds, bubble mailers or make a monetary donation, this would ALSO be GREATLY APPRECIATED. I have purchased seeds as well for newbies, to help round out some packages/add more variety on my dime.

This is my way of 'paying it forward" and I spend alot of time prepping before packages can go out...Not that I am complaining. but an additional help would be GREAT!

THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Val

PS,I made this post yesterday under an old July post and thought some might not see it, so am re-posting with new thread.

I will be planting a fairly large garden next spring of uncommon heirloom vegetables. I will also be doing some seed preservation. I don't have anything to offer right now but I'd love to contribute some seeds after I harvest my garden next year.

I have a bunch of pumpkin and winter squash seeds I'd be happy to donate. I can package some of them in individual envelopes if you want--just tell me how many you normally include in each packet.

Janet, thank you so much for your offer, I'll send you a PM and include my address

Adam - Thank you, we love newbies who "pay it forward", we have several that have done so, and it's greatly appreciated!

SHANNON FROM TX - I got your donation - thanks SOOOOO much! I can't find your PM to thank you, so am doing so publicly :D

From my 2016 garden, I harvested some heirloom veggie seeds: Marglobe tomato seeds, Hungarian hot wax banana pepper seeds, Bush Watermelon seeds and more. Let me know if you'd like some.

    Val,

Thanks so much for all the work you are doing! I am starting a garden on some property we purchased in Montana and it would be such a help to get some seeds! Thank you for all you do for this community!

Erika, I've messaged you. This is the thread for those sending seeds (donors) :D

Karen H, thank you for the veggies seeds and extra flowers you sent!

With all the recent donations, and some I have to add, I should be able to put together a limited number of veggie packs to offer in January. I spent yesterday sorting seeds and just have to round out the packs with another 5-6 seeds to make a minimum of 25 that I like to send :D

Heather R. THANK YOU for your donation. It's greatly appreciated!

    Hi Val,

I am a newbie myself and got seeds from you in October. I am willing to donate seeds but I may not be able to get them to you for the January offer.

A couple of caveats are that I am a novice at harvesting seeds and some of the seeds are of uncertain origin, and even those of certain origin I can't vouch for whether or not they are open-pollinated seeds.

Please let me know if you have concerns, you will not offend me if you take a pass on certain kinds of seeds.

    LADIES AND GENTS --

Thanks to the donation of a few generous members here, I have enough veggies to offer a limited number of packs to newbies. I'm posting to ask for more donations -- both Veggies and Flowers.

ANY seeds are greatly appreciated to get some newbies started, and have the opportunity to start growing without a large expense.

    THANK YOU IN ADVANCE

Hey Val, how many multiples of 25 seeds do you need of one type to cover enough newbies to be worth it?

Hi Val. How do I request a newbie seed pack? I'm in Zone8b. I would really love to plant more veggies and flowers this year. Ive picked up a couple of cauliflowers and jalapeño peppers plants at a local Home Depot but has not transplanted yet. I would really like to grow my own veggies and flowers from seeds. Thank you so much.

Are you accepting commercial seeds that have been treated?

Jennifer, are you talking about GMO seeds or ?? Treated with what?

    Hi Beth and Sunshinegal.

Thank you for your kind offers; however you don't have your messaging set up so I can't message either of you. Please feel free to message me. Thanks!#

Val, I've been getting messages from others, so not sure what's wrong....will send you a message and see if you get it and can just reply with that. Hope that works! :)

i'm not sure. i just know that my pea seeds are coated with some sort of pink coating.

Val, mine is on too. I'll try again to send so you can hopefully just reply

Jennifer, I'm not really a veggie gardener, you might post to the veggie forum to find out what your pea seeds are coated with. The seeds from the newbie project are not coated and non GMO. I have received some and or seen advertised some seeds that are "pelletted". This generally is dome with a harmless substance but makes the tiny seeds easier to handle/plant

SunshineGal and Beth, messages sent in response to your. Sunshine, when I go to your profile page, I can now see the message button, where I couldn't before.

It would be helpful if in your thread requesting donations you specified the requirements re: non GMO's etc. I have no seeds to donate.

Hi, I have nonGMO from Botanical Interests: Buckwheat, Peas for shoots/micro greens, fenugreek sprouts and red velvet lettuce.

And Painted Mountain Corn from Finney Farm in WA.

I also have straight eight cucumber and Cali wonder pepper (from Burpee Organic).

I don't want them to go to waste, they 'expire' in 2018/2019 and I have more seeds than I need for the next 3 years. Please let me know where to send them! Thanks!
