We don't understand the dimensions. Will you please explain more in detail. How wide is the part that attaches to the ceiling? How far down from the ceiling does it drop?

Yes. The overall height is 144 inches, however it is adjustable to be shorter. The length is 52.13" which is what it would be from one end of the fixture to the other (looking at the picture it would be left to right) and the width is 18.74 which would be the opposite direction from the length it would be the depth. The widest part of the fixture is the shade so the diameter of the shade is 18.74". I hope that makes sense!

You can adjust as short as you want... however the appeal of this fixture is the sweeping lengths of the pulley system. There does need to be some play in the lengths to operate successfully.
