Help with remodel of kitchen

How can I go by changing or fixing this area with the cabinet gap. I want to use what I have cause budget is a must. I will be painting the cabinets.

    Is there a gap in the base cabinets too? i.e., could you slide both stove and hood to the right and put a narrow piece of cabinet/counter between stove and wall? Or is this an undersized range? a bit hard to tell what's going on from current photo. (A metal hood might make the non-centered aspect less obvious, but that might not be in budget.)
