Beth -- Love all your Gs, especially Gilbert Becaud and Givenchy! Wish these rose were still available somewhere.

What do you think overall of Glamis Castle? Is it a thrip magnet? It's a discontinued DA rose but available from Heirloom and I'm thinking of getting it for my front yard which is morning sun, light shade in the afternoon.

Love that GREEN ROSE!!

Ann, I can't really give a definitive review on GLAMIS CASTLE as yet. I've had the rose for many yrs. But I had it and a lot of my DAs and similar roses planted along the upper fence which is West-facing and doesn't get a lot of sunlight. That area is along an access road that runs back to a couple of houses. The owner of the access road planted some sort of tall evergreen shrubs, (I haven't figured out what they are) that are about 8ft high, so they blocked the sun most of the day. It was dumb of me to plant there, and I knew it, but I was running out of room and just stuck about 50 plants along there. Over the yrs, a few died, and most rarely bloomed. With the advent of us needing to re-do our septic system two yrs ago, we had the opportunity (or necessity actually) to have 4 huge trees cut down. I have been in the slow process of making lots of new beds in the newfound sunny areas. So... that being said... GC was planted in the "white/lavender/bright pink" DA/shrub bed in the spring of 2015. It was a puny little plant when I transplanted it, and it took a yr to recover. This last season it did very well and bloomed quite frequently. The thrips aren't a huge problem, altho they do hit a little bit. It had a little bit of B/S in the early spring, and I imagine it's got it out there now in this unusually cold and wet winter we are having now. Haven't really seriously looked at the plants much over the last few months with the holidays and dealing with my mom's estate. But anyway, at this point I'd say it's a pretty good rose. It actually was one that did bloom occasionally up along the fence, so it must be one that can handle a little shade as well. The problem was, I didn't mulch or fertilize them very much up there. They were kind of just kind of left to fend for themselves! I'm so thankful tho that I didn't lose more than what I did.

As you can see, it does get a few thrips, but not as much as other roses I have.

Irisgal, I'm with you about Gentle Hermione. I got her as a mislabel from David Austin (they then sent me the rose I ordered AND refunded). I adored her for one glorious season, but alas, she didn't live through last winter.

She was my only G, so I'll just enjoy yours for now!

Dan, I agree. The picture was taken May 28th, that explains it. As the season progresses, by late summer, I have BS issues. Usually, it starts at the bottom of the bush.

Here is another shot from the same day. South Africa is the yellow in the background. This cycle was the best of the season, bush and blooms.

So many beautiful roses! After seeing your Geoff Hamilton towandaz, I have put it on my David Austin list, and off again 3 x's already. It looks like one that would be happy here, but I am unsure about the coloring

Lynn, Geoff is gorgeous, however I have to say that it's a bit stingy with blooms. It's usually that paler pink as it opens as you can see in the vase. It's foliage is gorgeous, stays lovely all Spring, Summer and most of Fall but it does get BS at the very end of the season in my climate.
