Need help with living space

My fiance and I just purchased an older remodeled house which has a pretty small living space. I'm trying to imagine the best configuration for placing a good sized couch and TV/entertainment center without blocking a window. The attached pictures are from the listing, so please ignore the poorly done venetian plaster "raw meat" walls... We're painting those. (As a side, any suggestions? We like the idea of venetian plaster, but this guy just chose the wrong color or something. Should we simply paint over that or do we need to do something different)

I actually can't really imagine a different configuration than the way the last owner had it, which may actually be the best for space. It may be that we end up making this the formal dining or something and end up using the space where the dining table currently is as the living area as it might be a little more conducive for a TV.

We're not sure. Any suggestions??

Maybe you can rethink the use of the rooms. Without seeing all of the rooms would your living room or dining room make a better entertainment room?

The present living room is off the front hall? Because of the front to back layout of the room, I could see that as a dining room, with a beautiful chandelier, long panels on the windows, and a new paint color. The only downside to this arrangement is if it is a trip from the kitchen.

The family room (and I call them that when a t v is part of the decor) would be fine in the back room.

I wish I could determine the placement of the fans, as I would like to see two chandeliers lined up. It also looks like they are not in the center of the room, which will be important especially where you place your dining table.

One more observation from the pixs, I suggest removing the chair rail or at least painting it the same color you chose for your walls as it is a very distracting line going from room to room.

No matter what arrangement you choose you should float the furniture and define the area with an area rug. I put together a mock up to show you one idea, which is to have two sofas facing each other and you may be able to add a chair to the arrangement. I'd suggest wall mount your flat screen on an articulating arm. It will keep it out of the way and give you flexibility for viewing. The TV equipment and/or accessories can then go into a small cabinet or chest fit for your style of furnishings. I wouldn't use anything label "entertainment unit". Hope this helps!

OMG, faux painting is so out. Paint. A soft great remove wood. Paint the whole area same. Add panels to windows. Use a print, with wall color in them.

Thanks for the replies.

The more I think about it, the less I like the current dining as a "family room". I think it's a little too narrow to accommodate more than a couple people watching TV comfortably.

I've attached more pictures of the foyer/entry way which was hard to judge the size in the last set of pictures. The entry way we were just planning on placing a simple entry table, although I find this hard to justify as these are basically never used and it just another thing to dust. Maybe someone has another suggestion? If you notice the bottom of the stairs off the foyer. I was thinking this should probably be opened up so you can actually see the stairs and make the entry look larger. I'm not entirely sure why the previous owner did this.
