Need help decorating this entryway

last modified: 9 years ago

As seen in this last picture, I have this chair set over here. I would like to put a rug and a mirror on the wall in front of the chairs. Looking for suggestions, comments, do's & don'ts. Thanks in advance

First of all, amazing home. Tell us more about your style. Your favorite colors to help you better :)

It's probably just the photos, but it appears dark in the foyer. For the area with the chairs, what would the mirror reflect? What do you plan on doing with the niches? It's a nice foyer, but it does need some warmth.

Thank you Ashley. My while house (except my daughters room) is painted neutral colors (same color you see in this pic). Because of this I would like some color - I like red, turquoise blue. I am thinking of a red rug - round/oblong under these chairs and a huge mirror across from them. I am not into trendy stuff.

Its the lighting in the pics. It is pretty bright. I intend to put two custom made pictures in the art niches. These will have a lot of gold in them.

    Any ideas? No one?

    Your space is BEAUTIFUL!

I'm going to assume there is some sort of mudroom off-screen that addresses the functional issues of arriving and departing.

I like your table and chairs. Because the space is narrow, I would place a console opposite the table and chairs (perhaps with a lamp, mirror and other decor) and place a runner between the two. The two framed photos above your chairs are a bit small in scale. Perhaps use the same concept but with larger frames?

For your door I would place a nice mat in a warm color (burgundy?) under the door so people can wipe their feet upon entry, and to break up the tile. I like the tile inlay though, so it would be nice if the mat didn't cover that.

I like your idea for art in the niches. Small sculptures or vases of flowers would look great as well.

    Hello apsolover and Houzz Pros.

What is the width of your foyer? and what is the length from the door to the stairs? I have a few ideas in mind, but need your measurements.

The area is beautiful but a little dark to me also. Is there accent lighting in the niches? That would make the artwork pop and add a nice touch. The wall above the front door is very large. I would look into hanging a tall tapestry there. There are lots of different tapestries from the very traditional to contemporary. Consider curves also as in the niches and the curve of the stairway which is so nice.

How about a large wrought iron monogrammed piece to go over the front door?

Also, I think adding a crown molding at the ceiling line of this foyer would give it more character.

Thanks all. There's actually a lot of light. The art niches have lights in the top of the arch. When you walk in the front door, my formal living is to your left and formal dining to your right. The mudroom is from the garage into the house just before you hit the kitchen. The front entrance is only used when we have company.

    From the front door to stairs is 17ft L x 9ft W

From stairs to the end of that wall (where the chairs are) is 11' L x 7.5' W

You can add a entry table with a mirror above it, a coat rack, or even a bench. It depends on the style you are looking for though as to what exactly you want.

Thanks Randy. I already have those two striped chairs for there (which I really love). What kind of rug can go over there? No cowhide please.

A traditional Persian rug looks gorgeous with the zebra chairs.

It's most likely a handmade rug and if that's the case, it is one of a kind. I have one similar, but it has a little red in it which I think pops a little more and looks great with the zebra chairs. I think you mentioned something with red in the above posts too. What do you think?

No problem. I would recommend searching for "Persian Nain" on google or shop local and visit your local Oriental rug store. Be sure to look for a wool/silk blend if you decide to go with a Persian Nain. We wish you the best and look forward to seeing your updates :)
