Design/Remodeling Software Recommendations

Hey, all. Lurker/potential active participant here looking for advice re. layman-oriented layout software. Grid and eye-level views are necessary.

My tech savvy-ness is average to somewhat better-than-average but I'm not a CAD user.

Ideas? TIA!

I've used and like room planner. If just for kitchens, the IKEA planner works well but can be buggy.

Lowes has a free kitchen planner that will save your plans for up to a year. It seems pretty similar to the one that the NKBA offers (National Kitchen and Bath.) Chief Architect offers some home planning software, but from what I understand, the learning curve is a bit steeper.

I downloaded it (Sweet Home) last night and haven't had a chance to use it. I got the freeware version and it looks more than adequate.
