Your best bet is a 25 year, 3 tab, GAF black shingle. "not charcoal" but black shingle. I hope this helps.

Thank you, R&R. It appears "Charcoal" is what GAF calls its black shingle. At least I have not been able to find anything else in the "black" family on the GAF website that is any darker.

Definitively GAF black ether 3 tab witch in my opinion look bad or GAF timberline natural shade (Not HD)

Would you say the Certainteed 3-tab black is the "blackest" shingle you found? I'm wanting a true black roof/no charcoal look, and i'm not having much luck.

Hey A-Town Houzer - this is an old thread but I am also looking for the darkest consistent non muddled or varied 3 tab - Are you happy with the Certainteed after 3 years?

I too would like to find a true black shingle? no variation in the charcoal, grays etc. I do not like all the variation in the colors

AGREED! I’m in CA so I have to meet cool roof standards so colors are even more limited. I think the owens corning night sky is the blackest on the market, its also architectural not 3 tab- and a cool roof. I think onyx black is also very black as stated by another consumer.

IKO dual black is the best shingles without variations

IKO are the worst quality shingles on the market right next to Tamko. They're thin, have no impact resistance and have had multiple class action suits as well as individual suits against their products. Darkest black shingle is Owens Corning Onyx Black. GAF does not make a color called "black" but have "charcoal" which is their black shingle.
