Blast from the past ...

I
was going through some stored paperwork this morning, ... and I found
a set of pre-2000 photos, from which those below are taken.

This
was my first major effort to grow African Violets. Most of these came
from local groceries. I recognize Arapahoe also which was from my
first order from Tinari's.

These
photos should have been taken about 1990 or so. They look pretty
good. Maybe the Chloramine was not so much an issue back then ...

I could make out one tag, ... the bright pink semi-double edged in red is tagged Razzmatazz.

Some of the others have generic labeling (i.e. "African Violet"). I remember that I gave most of these plants my own names.

In any case, the red is Arapahoe, (obtained from Tinari's) ...

... and I'm pretty sure that this is Fickle Flirt (another plant obtained from Tinari's)

... and this might be Phobos ...

... and I think that Twinkle (violet with a white thumbprint) is in this photo ...

... and whatever these plants are, they sure are interesting ...

No ... any of these would be 25 years old by now.

These plants were done in by a struggle with Thrips and a Mealybug foliar infestation ...

I just wondered if you kept propagating a leaf to keep maybe a favorite variety going. But thanks for the pix! You had some beauties there just as you do now!!!! Rosie

I wasn't propagating back then. I had just learned how to keep the plants growing and blooming ...

I think my name should have been "Dr. Frankenstein". Whenever I see something I like it is not enough to buy one I then want to learn to "make" one. I read about it, try to find all of the stuff/tools/whatever to be able to create one. And that included plants! Doesn't matter what kind of plants. Geraniums, violets, aloe. ANY kind! When I got my first violets it was off to the library I went. Any book they had I read. To find out they could reproduce by leaves,,,,,,oh my! And I did! And Gloxinia also! And THAT accounts for all of my hobbies! Yes,,,,a real sickness. But I am never bored! Rosie

PS. I also do not have any of my old favorites from the past. Who knew they would never be available and would cease to exist???? (heavy sigh) Thank goodness for Memory Lane!

Rosie, I know just how u feel about propagating. I do the same thing - get a plant, chop it up into ten plants and then give away plants. Gonna try really hard to limit my propagation this year so I can simplify things a little. I do believe it is a sickness.
