Well it certainly is unique/pretty now so enjoy it, at least while it lasts!!

Stush, please keep us posted on the fishtank problem, like will not watering for a month be the answer. Won't know for a month, but I'm eager to learn more.

It's gonna be dicey Stush, too bad there's not a bit more green on the poor little thing. Watering will be critical, I think I'd use the same strategy as you're planning for the fish tank except maybe no water for the rest of the winter if it doesn't shrivel.

I can see the change in color in the yellow leaves, rot! Like Chris said, enjoy while I have them. Seen some leaves starting to shrive so I figure to water. Well, those leaves all died and some crown rot showed up. Cleaned up and replanted in a high grit mix. So far so good. Spraying with mouthwash is next instead of watering. Two months ago, I watered them with a Bayer and Captan mix and it may have started the problem. All the leaves have a whitest coating of Captan. That's where the mouthwash comes in. I'll wait another month before doing anything. All my other sans got the same treatment and they are doing fine in a cold basement, but they are the greener hardier types. My S. trifasciata Forescate is so amazing showing many different styles of leaves that I must show a new post of the many different leaves of this. But no new pups sprouting.

Post that 'Forescate' Stush. I love that cultivar but don't have the very good conditions to grow it.

I feel your pain Stush, growing sans in winter can be very frustrating. I doubt the Bayer and Captan caused the rot in spite of the whitish coating it left, I suspect it has more to do with moisture at the wrong time. I'm beginning to think just leaving them dry all winter is the best treatment, Norma Lewis in California has been doing this for years. She says they shrivel but recover in the spring.

Has anyone heard from or seen any posts by Norma recently? I hope the dear girl is well.

Last I heard of Norma, she was in a home to care for her. Maybe Karen will tell us more? I was hoping she would still use a computer to communicate with us.

Should have called this thread 'nature abhors a vaccum'. Seems so, there is a lot more green coming into play here. Got two candles under tank during day (while I'm present) heating tank up to 80 degrees. Glass bottom of tank is just warm to touch.

Got some crown rot on my hahnii 'Streaker'. It does have several pups so I think they will be ok. Not touching them till spring. Showing rest of tank.

Funny how the above hahnii 'Loops Pride' is much lighter than rest of plant. They are connected to the same root and was like that when I got it. Ok with me if it stayed that way. Whitish marks are from the Captan.

Thanks for all those pics Stush, interesting strategy with the candles for heat. I'd have never thought of that but it's a good idea for cheap heat. Are all these sans are under fluorescent lights? The plants look great!

I hope your information about Norma being in a home is incorrect, hopefully someone will let us know.

Well, it died. Both turned brown and rotted. I was hoping that the one with a greener interior had a chance. Well, like Chris said, enjoy them while you have them. Guess it true that it is almost impossible to grow an albino. When the rooted leaf dried up, it was curtains for them.

Ah rats Stush, that's too bad! But we're always playing a losing game with the highly variegated and especially near-albino sans. Oh well, looking at your pictures just above of the many beautiful types of Hahnii's you're growing, I have to compliment your growing ability my friend. If I could grow Hahnii's like that I wouldn't grow anything else.
