Have you made a second thread ? No matter, I think it's a lovely looking area ! I'd use uneven flagstones with a pretty ground-cover, planted in between the slabs, to take the place of the grass and weeds ! Any larger raised containers you use should be lined out with weed matting, before filling with soil. From this little glimpse, I'm guessing that you'd like a space that has the feel of a cottage kitchen garden ? .. In which case, you can vary the height and type of containers you use for your veggies and flowers .. and use more of them to make the space a little busier and more colourful.

A search of "english cottage veggie garden spaces" here on Houzz, turned up lots of lovely pictures of informal designs for a flower and veggie garden area ,,, try seeing what styles appeal to you there ... anything from formal arrangements of planters and fully, bricked or paved underfoot, to the more 'cottage garden' tumbling effect of flowers and veggies grown together and raised beds built of simply stacked bricks or rocks.
