I know bearded iris aren't really recommended for my zone but I'd like to try reblooming iris here anyway. I used to grow rebloomers in NY with mixed success. I can't remember where I purchased them, Just that they where purchased through a catalog as several collections. Up north, late spring frosts would often damage them. Then they would regrow really well until early summer when heavy rain would satuate the rich soil leading to root rot, stunted flowers, and wilted leaves. I would then have to cut them back to stimulate new growth. Once the rain stopped and heat would set in, they would take off again quickly, but I would then have to water them weekly whenever it didn't rain. They would then produce flower stalks that would bloom in early fall if I was lucky but very often many of them would attempt to bloom in late fall instead. Those stalks would be killed back by early frosts. This went on for years. I have to say however that I really admired their determination. I'd like to see how they would do in my garden now in florida where I have very well drained soil and winters with some chill but rarely if ever a frost. I have a strong feeling that the rebloomers would love it in my new garden. I know the regular bearded iris would not as theres no real dormancy period here for them. What are the best , most economical sources for rebloomers this time of year? I actually saw a few bare root reblooming rhizomes at home depot on clearance whose names I recognized from my old collection in NY but they where clearly hollow and desicated left overs from fall. I see some on ebay but they either seem kind of pricey individually sold or are collections of unnamed varieties.
