Make a front entryway a mudroom?

I have a 1915 center entrance colonial with no space for any official mud room. It is 10.4 feet wide and 6.5 feet deep. It is flanked with double wide openings with a living room on one side and a dining room on the other.
We currently have coat hooks on either side of the door and a built in bench against the stairway. We are thinking of making it look more mud room like by tiling that area. Any thoughts/ideas/photos about a similar space?

(Disregard the bare lightbulb in the photo. Our electrician is still installing a new fixture.

If the floor in this area is the same as in the adjoining rooms, I don't think you need to change it. Because of the classic style of this house, it is natural for it to flow from the entry into the other rooms. Without seeing the opposite view, it's hard to provide more advice than that, but I would definitely not pull up hardwood to lay down tile.
