Miele Coffee Machine Owners - What brand coffee do you use?

We have ordered the plumbed Miele coffee machine which will be installed later this spring. May I ask other owners what beans / brands you use in your machine as I understand "oily" beans are a no-no as well as flavored beans (which I don't use)

Thanks

4K for a machine that dictates what kind of coffee that you can enjoy? Rather than you telling it exactly what you want and that happening? And for mediocre coffee at best? Sigh. The lifestyle marketers have won. If you want a plumbed in coffee machine, the Bunn makes a much better cup.

Buy local. National brands are mostly carp anyway. Or, roast your own.

Congrats on getting the Miele! I went into a Miele showroom and they were using Illy beans but said most any would work but that Starbucks beans are too oily. This is true for many nice coffee/express machine, not just Miele and not just built ins. Do you have any local places?

I didn't want to give up the cabinet space for the built in model but just received my freestanding Miele coffee maker delivered to my door about 15 minutes ago! :) I'm so excited to start playing with it. I usually use Level Ground, locally roasted beans, but will double check to see if there are any restrictions for my model. Hope not!

Oily beans are going to cause any grinder to need cleaning more frequently than less oily ones. I don't have a Miele machine, but I do have an espresso machine and a very nice grinder. I live in the SF bay area and get my beans from both Peet's and Blue Bottle. I definitely have to clean my grinder a lot more frequently when I'm using the Peet's beans. They are much oilier and the residue is quite noticeable on the burrs after awhile. I rarely see that with the BB beans.

Definitely look to local roasters for your beans as jmm suggested. You'll be able to tell if they are oily, it's pretty obvious :-) . Enjoy your new machine! Some friends of mine have one (going on about 3 yrs now) and they love it.

I think I can get Illy beans locally. We have lots of local brands (I'm in Hawaii) since Kona is grown here (along with varieties on Oahu such as Waialua) along with having such kiosks as Seattle's Best. Sometimes you just want something different, there is a lot of Kona available. Was curious if anyone is buying on the internet from various sources and getting fresh beans. Malacat, love Blue Bottle! I think Peet's is sold at the local grocery.

Sophie: we've had a Bunn (at the office) which lasted 20+ years. I agree they make a good machine; no Bunn built-ins available in my area that I've seen. However I'm not a coffee snob (I'm a wine snob) and don't go to Starbucks (which often has bitter/harsh coffee IMO) or any other coffee shop routinely. Nor will I make time to roast my own beans. I also own a manual espresso machine (15+ bar pressure) which can handle other beans.

Oahu is only about 30 miles wide, but if I can have something shipped that is only going to be a day or two old on arrival, it will save me literally HOURS in traffic. We avoid going downtown as much as possible. So will try out Green World Coffee Farm up the road from me.

I don't like harsh coffee or green tasting beans and I love Illy. Seattle's Best are mediocre supermarket beans here in the PNW. You might try Stumptown from Portland if you want to order online. It's DH's favorite.

Wait...you live in Hawaii and you're asking US where to get coffee?

Oily bean restriction has to do with gumming up the internal grinder, and the channels that feed the ground coffee to the brewer. Usually a pain to reach and clean.

Weedmeister - yes, because sometimes you don't WANT Kona (which can also be pricey) and I definitely don't want Mac-Nut or coconut flavored blends. and then there is traffic if I want to buy from roasting vendors in town (Honolulu). To be avoided! I jut found this Green World Coffee which is just a few miles away so I will definitely give them a try.

That's what I understood from Miele - oily beans gum up the works.

I'd happily deliver what ever beans you want. Enjoy your Miele.

I order Lavazza Super Crema on Amazon for my espresso machine. I've also been using Intelligencia from Target (also at Whole Foods for more money).

Try pachamama coffee! My in-laws have Miele coffee machine and pachamama works great. Plus, delicious and farmer owned.

    Diva,

You get tired of Kona? I just fainted. :-). Try Smith Farms in Hawaii. Great coffee and an estate blend. I second Blue Bottle coffee - 17ft ceiling is one of my favorite Espressos.

After a trip to Costa Rica I bought Cafe Britt coffee for my builtin Miele http://www.cafebritt.com/. The espresso roast was never oily. I did not know about the oily beans( the espresso maker came with the loft) and it was a bear to clean when the grinder got clogged up.

But I am now roasting my own beans and loving it! Another kitchen gadget Behmor 1600 plus from Sweet Maria's https://www.sweetmarias.com/

    Camano Island Coffee.

I order my coffee from Camano Island Coffee Roasters. I am a club member and have a standing order for 2lbs Brazil Dark Roast and 2lbs coffee of the month. Because I don't live far from the roaster, I get my coffee the day after it's roasted via Priority Mail.

Thanks homepro - I'll give them a shot. The prices seem reasonable. I like the Waialua coffee grown here on Oahu, just don't buy much Kona these days as all the stores (including Walmart) are overrun with tiny 6 to 8 oz. bags of 100% Kona, or a million flavored Kona blends, for the tourists. There are a couple of blends labeled as made for well known local restaurants which are OK - but they are 10% Kona only. Most the blends are only 10%. I want to use real beans and get real flavor!

Sharon - just what I need, another gadget! LOL! Maybe I'll try when I'm retired. Too busy to start another hobby right now!

Terri, this one could be promising. It could probably arrive from WA within a couple of days. Maybe the pachamama mentioned by arbenson too. I want to try a few over a period of a couple of months to try some new roasts. Then I can set up a standing order with the ones we like best.

I believe Camano has a "try us deal".

We are on our second plumbed built-in Miele. I can do without my dishwasher, stove top, oven, etc., but NOT my Miele coffee machine.

We use Lavazza Expresso Roast for both regular and decaf. We got an extea bean bin so we can easily switch.

I don’t like flavored coffee. I like coffee.

I've never been so disappointed in a purchase. Avoid the Miele. It's slow, loud, hard to use and you have no idea which beans will appear shiny or oily until you buy them. This thing is a HUGE ripoff!!!

It all depends on your taste preferences but for example I like Mushroom Coffee the most. This is an organic coffee that does not contain GMOs, gluten, or sugar. By the way, vegans can also drink it. But to be honest most of all I like not even the taste of this coffee but the effect of it. I've been drinking it for 1 month now and I can see that I'm much more calm and focused than when I was drinking my regular coffee. I drink a cup a day in the morning and in the afternoon while working and I am completely satisfied. You can try it, I'm sure you'll appreciate it.

A good coffee machine is expensive, isn't it?

I have to agree with Tim Paul. I regret getting a Miele built in, especially with all the great counter machines out there. I loved the idea of it but I miss my dark roast coffee! Sucks to spend a ridiculous amount of money on a coffee machine and not be able to use the beans you really want! .....and as Tim mentioned, you don't really know if the beans will be oily/shiney until you open them. Although, my understanding is to just avoid dark roast.

I have a Miele CM 6360 and am a fan of Death Wish beans. I leave THE Grinding at a neutral setting and the coffee comes out perfect. They also are not oily, which can cause issues with the grinder if you aren’t up on the cleaning maintenance.
