I must have a fairly cold hardy variety of St Augustine. It did not go totally dormant until the second weekend with temps below 17 degrees. Even after the first weekend it was only about half dormant. It's possible it got to 14 degrees this past Saturday morning. We're expecting highs in the high 70s Wed-Friday, so yeah, deep thermal cycling.

Same here. 5 degrees today, 70+ Thursday forecasted.

The KBG is browning some under the snow, the top half of the blade is turning brown. Is that normal? I've never seen fescue do that.

Morph once said that KBG does not necessarily go dormant every winter. Nevertheless, his winter pictures showed his lawn to be the only green one
while every other KBG lawn in down the street was dormant. For example this from 4/11/2011.

So I think what he was saying was that if you take good care of it, it probably won't go dormant.

Fescue is supposed to be green in the winter.

That's what my front lawn looks like right now. The celebration Bermuda is still 90% green, while all my neighbor's 419 is totally dormant. My 419 backyard is also done for the year, but it's 81 degrees today. Ridiculous

Very interesting about the Celebration. That is a new variety, so anything you can share is valuable. Celebration is supposed to be somewhat shade tolerant, right? And where are you, again, in Texas?

False alarm on the KBG, the snow is melting and it's greener than ever. I think it liked the snow. The half-browning was only along driveway edges for whatever reason. Close to 70 degrees today, wonder if I'll have to mow in January.

Sometimes road salt can damage the grass next to driveways.

Indeed & it's definitely taking the shade better so far, but the real test is several years of partial shade so time will tell. I'm NW of Houston in Cypress.
