Carpet Woes

Hi, doing a lot of upgrading over the next few months and I am trying to select how to treat my floors.

Currently, the main floor has all hardwood except for the family room and office. I want to hardwood the entire main level floor which would mean re-staining the current floor and adding wood to the two carpeted rooms. My question is this… would laminate work for the two rooms that have carpet now or should I put down real hardwood to completely match? We have the thin planks now on the main level and I would like to go with the wider plans and a darker stain throughout but not sure how that would flow with smaller planks on the rest of the floor.

Thoughts?

Real hardwood of the same width, stained the same color, will look best. It will not look like a make-do where the owner ran out of money.

If the new hardwood flooring and the old simply can't be made to match, the usual option is to put in a plain or fancy inlaid wood border of a contrasting color between the rooms.

I think I better stick to a nice carpet in the two rooms or hardwood the two rooms as suggested with real wood and same stain for cost purposes.

I was hoping I could lay the laminate differently to give a different feel to the new area but allow flow to continue. Boo.

No laminate, ever. “click click click”. Noise gives it away.

Try some of the new indoor/outdoor carpeting that is pretty amazing.

I am doing Stanton Atelier in a project right now.

i have real hardwood in the hallway and did laminate wood in the spare bedroom. (that bedroom was actually done first, about 3 years before the wood hallway). looks horrible. plus i had water damage on it from the cats water bowl. It was nice at the time I bought it but way before all the info was out. I'm ripping it out. Don't do it. Either keep some carpet or do similar wood to what you have .

I'm sold on the no laminate. Does that include basements cause I currently have boxes of laminate in my basement that was delivered today (insert hands on horrified face emoji)

Love that carpet! Wow! That is the level of sophistication I am going for. Will definitely look into this.
