Refrigerator recommendations

I thought picking out the refrigerator would be the easiest part of the kitchen remodel and it turns out to be the most stressful. Here is what I am looking for:

1. A 36" refrigerator. If possible full depth. I really care about efficient use of space. Stainless steel finish.

2. Don't want a water filter or ice cube dispenser (we don't use either of them).

3. Nice to have: bottom freezer. Seems to be somewhat efficient use of space.

We don't store a ton of things in the freezer but we cook almost every day, and therefore store a bunch of produce from our garden and the farmers market in our refrigerator.
Any recommendations for solid reliable brands in the ~$3K or lower range?

On a separate note, I am drooling over the Bluestar 36" refrigerator. However, the lack of any real-life reviews make me really reluctant to drop a bunch of cash and be a beta-tester! Any body here care to chime in with your experience?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Wow, on their website the Bluestar built in fridge is listed at almost $10k!!

There's so many personal preferences, space constraints, budgets with refridgerators it's difficult for people to give you specific recommendations.

We got a big expensive but on sale French Door (yes icemaker in door broke and takes up lots of room) with 3rd tray above bottom freezer in our kitchen. Found that the inside fridge space wasn't enough so we got a second inexpensive model (top freezer, no door icemaker) in our garage. Didn't have water pickup there so just didn't install the optional ice maker giving us even more freezer room.

Any reputable local appliance stores where the sales people could assist you? I find it really helpful to walk around and visually touch and see the models in person rather than online.

@5birdy: I am quite the opposite. I like to do all my research online and then go to the store with the exact information about the models I want or am interested in. This way I can my research in a low-pressure environment at home and then go and talk to the salespeople with a narrow list of choices. Many of them appreciate it and others don't (and they don't get my business).

It seems really hard to find a decent bottom freezer refrigerator that is 36" wide and reasonably priced :(

Fisher and Paykel has a new integrated fridge for $3500. Would that work for you? I think a few posters on the forum have purchased them but it is really early to give feedback on reliability.

    Good luck!

I found a local store which sells open box Miele refrigerators that come with a 1 year manufacturer warranty. I have looked at the specs and they seem to be pretty well made. Also the price is in the same ballpark as Liebherr and Bosch. I am leaning towards going with this choice. Thanks everybody for their input!

    Vishketan,

Please confirm with Miele that the warranty applies. The unit has a normal one year warranty and I believe that Miele also offers a warranty on the compressor and other parts like that. Make sure that Miele will provide you both warranties.

    Good luck!

@homepro01: Thanks for the tip. I asked for the serial number from the dealer and called Miele. They said that the standard 1 year warranty applies. I did not check about the extended warranty on the compressor and other parts. I will do that tomorrow. Thanks!

@homepro01: About your Fisher and Paykel comment, I did look at their intergrated refrigerator offering. But it was priced at 5299 (+500 for SS panels) at A J Madison. Since it was pretty new to the market, and in the same ballpark price as the Liebherr (~6700) I did not investigate it further.

    Vishketan,

Glad to hear about the warranty. For the Fisher and Paykel, I was referring to the French door 36" that is 72" high. It retails for about $3500. You are right though that it is very new to the market and usage history is not available. The Miele is a great unit

    Good luck!
