is this going to be a commercial sort of enterprise (bed and breakfast) or your own dining room, as ideas my be different.

(secondly, is this room warm/cool enough to use all the time? i see all of these windows and think brrrrr or too hot, depending on the season/location. one could do something different with the far end like full height draperies if there is often a chill in the air. )

i think deco is correct. you can get away with 2 mismatched tables for a bed and breakfast, but you'd have a harder time making relatives sit at the odd man out high table as part of a gathering.

i know from this... we have our second table in the right adjacent to the dining room library, and at a large family brunch you could see folks skittering for a place at the main table.

if you do stick with your two tables for economy reasons, you must sit at the high table to give it credibility unless you have some teens or beer drinkers who will have a hoot there. maybe.

and in that case you could go with a strong unifying color to make the statement about the color and not about the mismatched tables.

last and, i still think closed drapes at the far end will make the room feel less linear, and you'd be able to put a larger/taller piece of furniture at the far end in spite of the windows being there.

I know what you are saying about the bar height, do not like it either. Know I can, and it would look better- to buy something else--- but not looking to have to sale and purchase anything. Trying to get ideas to use what I have and make it look better. So, you don't have any ideas on how to use what I have?

yes... i made two suggestions.

1.have drapes at the far end, always closed, so you can put a sideboard down there without regard to the height of the windows it would be in front of. it will bring the far end forward so the room looks shorter/ less long.

2. choose a stronger color for the room, so the color would be the unifying factor. you can make this formal or informal but if you make it beige it will look like two different tables in a beige room. if you make it blue, or green, or whatever, it will look like a blue or green dining room, that will be the eyecatcher and not the tables being different.
