That's a gorgeous arrangement! I don't think I have tasted all of those but I know the first time I tasted a moro, I loved it! I'm crossing my fingers that my tree may make oranges this year.

I like them all but my favorite is the Moro.

Moro, cara cara and navel from best to mediocre. Moro is quite tatsy with cara cara a close second. Navels are great for contemplating and making juice.

I think so far we have a winner.....Moro. My order is like Vladimir's. John, that was my 7 year old citrus lover. I armed her with a knife and she went to town ;-). She is my little chef!

If I were to grow an orange tree I would go with the troveta orange. I have eaten moro blood and Carra Cara oranges from the grocery store. I have found that what determines the best taste in oranges is more dictated by when it is pick over its variety. A good reason to grow your own. I prefer flavors over over sweet or sour. That is why the Arkansas blacking is my favorite apple. It is not sweet or sour but is packed with flavors I can't describe.

My no1 pick is Page by a long shot. I have been eating them late December and still have some on the tree.

The first time I tasted a Cara Cara, I didn't even know what it was; but I knew immediately I had to have it.

The cara cara is delicious John...it was a close call and frankly, it is still being debated at my house ;-). Sunshine, the darkest is the Moro. Mike, there are three types of oranges on the plate - naval (lightest), cara cara (pink), and blood Moro (deep red). I really like all of them. I had my husband run over to Trader Joe's today to buy two more bags of blood oranges while they have them. I made candied blood orange peel today. Here's a pic...about half are already gone ;-0

Laura you just need more of those tree's. If kids love them you better make a whole lot more, Bob

LOL Bob....don't say that to my husband ;-)...or my son....he helps me drag them in and out and my husband has to fight his way through the forest to play saxophone and congas in that room!

Bob, I have a Page, but it is young and has no fruit yet. It does has a bloom though.

I just had a sumo and that is the best citrus I have ever tasted. It does not have the complexity of a moro but it is damn good.

I just found some sumos about an hour ago at the store...along with minneola tangelos. I can't wait to try them!

Just tried sumo. I like it, but I prefer a bit more tang...delicious, juicy, and sweet, but I prefer the blood.

Brian, is your tree in the ground? My tree is about 9 years old, might missed it by a year or so. I don't know how you rate years, i don't mind having 2 more tree's of them.

Hi Bob my Page tree is in a huge rain barrel and is about 12 ft tall . I've had the tree I think memory is getting bad about 6 yrs . It lives in a Greenhouse for 7 months out of the year then the remaining 5 spring and summer months outside .

Laura i am so glad that you loved the taste of the moro orange that is so encouraging. I have 2 blood oranges one 5 yrs the other 3 neither has ever flowered fingers crossed for this spring .

Brian, I hope you get some blood oranges soon. I am surprised you don't have barrels of them yet with your green thumb ;-). I have two that are blooming, but I doubt they will hang on to the fruits as they are young yet...

Mike How is your in ground Meyer lemon tree doing. I haven't seen any pictures of it lately of I missed them.

Brian, my Page is 7 ft tall with container.When i bought this tree it was near death towards the end of summer at Lowe's. In the beginning i did not know how to take care of citrus tree's. I was into asian persimmons, big time and now 20 plus tree's later. My ceiling in the shop is 10 ft, so i have some time left.

Bob, doesn't it feel great to rescue a tree to see it thrive?? I have a few like that and take great pleasure from seeing how far they've come.

Hi Bob that's such a great story, it's such a nice feeling bringing a barely living plant back from the brink and now it's rewarding you for all your hard work great stuff . Sounds like you have a couple of years before the tree hits the ceiling in your shop lol . I am hooked with this citrus thing like yourself I have well over 20 myself . I wish they had more time outside I live in Ontario Canada way north of you . Bob I love my Page without a doubt the most beautiful of all my tree's it has that classic citrus tree look.

Brian, i notice that your beautiful tree is growing in a tall pot, i use squat pot for citrus because of the shallow root system. When i repot i notice the roots going wide. Correct if i am wrong.

Hi Bob interesting observation the roots on my citrus tree's always go straight to the bottom at least the grafted ones the cuttings seem to have shallower roots .

Laura I am doing a cleaning of my tree's today leaf by leaf and just noticed the two blood oranges I never had flowered beginning to flower Yippee.

It really does not matter whether you use a tall or
squat pot as long as it is tall enough so that the PWT is far away enough from
the roots. One advantage of a tall pot versus a squat pot is that the perched
water table (PWT) is further down which makes root rot less likely.
Some
people say that citrus have shallow roots but I am not sure that I believe that
is true, at least for all of them. I have two old trees in 18 inch deep pots
and their roots extended to the bottom before repotting. The same is true of my
younger trees in 1 and 2 gallon pots. The other trees I have were newly acquired and repotted and had not yet reached their maximum root
length.

I am always more careful when i have container tree's that i bring in for the winter, because the bottom might stays wet too long. If you have a greenhouse that changes everything. I have raised my containers on dollies because the concrete floors are rather cold and it would transfer that to the container if it sits on the floor.The temp at dolly level is 60* and that is ok.

So happy for you Brian!!! In no time at all you'll be enjoying those oranges! I think my pots are mostly tall and so far so good. Bob, I have my trees on rollers - especially in my sunroom because that floor is a concrete slab with tiles...it gets very cold. I figured they would not appreciate having cold roots ;-)

When you bring your babies in for the winter they will need some adjusting and therefor they need all the help for the first few months.

I bought a few Moro at a local nursery a few days ago, they were amazing! I also got a Ponderosa lemon, which I used to make lemonade. Delicous!
