2 part question

Hello all. I need help again... First problem. I have a carnosa that I'm having a hard time getting to properly hydrate.the leaves are like paper.its been that way since I got it. I thought if i mist it every day it would be OK.the Vines are extremely long would it help if I cut them? They are drying up at the end.
Second question... When rooting I've been told no bright light because of stress.. Then I was told 12 hours under lights is better.please help

Question #1- root check. If roots are okay, check for bugs. If no bugs are present, you may want to add a bit of sphagnum moss (NO peat) to your mix, for extra water retention. It would not hurt to take cuttings, just in case!

Question #2- I ALWAYS root right under grow lights. I was also told not to root under light due to stress, when I first started growing. It took longer, and I had more failures. May just be my particular climate (and micro-climate of my house), but I think that is only PART of it. It just sits odd with me to disallow light for a being that relies on it to make food. I have far more luck rooting using the same conditions my plants are used to.

Yep. Just cut the dry/dead tips off. They will regrow.

Eww...though...that stem does not look right! Are the roots nasty?

I will check, last time I checked They were OK but it's been a few times that roots were good then suddenly the root are still cream colored but dead and a few new ones are coming.. what would cause that?

well it looks like what I was just talking about.no bugs.. dead roots.. but why.when I got it, it was very wet so I mixed Some dry soil/mix with it.but The leaves have been like this from day one.ive gotten a few from the same person and none of the leaves are thick like other carnosa.they seem dry but when I tried to tell her she seemed to get upset so I just left her alone.sorry bad light and flash is too bright

In rooting - I was told by Carol Noel not to root under lights. I'm putting the plant through added stress. She said to put a rooting plant under high lights is like putting a baby on the street and expecting it to run.

I really don't want to lose the Lisa's I'm rooting. I do have them on a heat mat.

I think the key is not to have the lights too bright or too close. Just one small t5 bulb that is 18 or so inches above the top of the plants is what I have had luck with in rooting, especially in fall and winter when daylight hrs go down. Then you can set a timer so that they get some light for 10 hrs or so like in spring. I have done both ways, and also have better luck using some light if in the house. If rooting outside in shaded area in spring or summer, they need no extra light.
