Wow....what an improvement!!!! Why was the A/C put on that wall? It was not there in the first pic. I would remove the TV from the wall and place it on a stand. Your Windows would look great with white cafe curtains....sweet!

Hey There: That's a huge improvement already...good job. When it comes to your window treatment you must have them as inside mount installation. Only this way you can preserve the beautiful casing around the windows.

It seems that your room is a bit darker than usual due to overhang of the house - so you don't want any valances or bulky blinds that cover up even more glass and cut out more light. You also want a translucent fabric that can provide you with light and privacy...

Pleated blinds that operate bottom up and top down are a great way to do so...they are minimalistic in depth and don't build up on the top or bottom - they are available in hundreds of colors and will compliment your previous color choices.

I agree, with a small space, woven window blinds or roman shades. They are sophisticated and tailored looking and will stand the test of time. In fact, JCPenny, if you have a standard width window, has them for very little money (woven ones).

Oh dear, where did that Air conditioning unit come from? If it's not too late to make a change, see mitsubishi for ac units made for renovations. They make a slim rectangle that is placed on a wall up near the ceiling (Mr. Slim), the square one in the photo can be placed in the ceiling itself.

Too late to change the a/c unit. I had talked to a Mitsubishi dealer and looked at various things, but everything they suggested was over $9000 and that is my floor money or kitchen cabinets. My grandmother had window units in three rooms, but there was no storage space at all for them and they ended up in the middle of the floor off-season, so I ended up with a few wall units for closer to $1000.

The house needed all new electricity and plumbing and bathroom and kitchen and roofing and siding and windows and doors and flooring and chimney and masonry and furnace and insulation and water heater and driveway and landscaping -(dead trees needed to come down) etc. most of the projects cost $10,000.

On top of all of that list, all of the appliances died within the past year, making it more expensive.

Crazy expensive to update these old houses. Got the house for free, but the updates cost almost as much as buying one. Had to make choices when I ran out of budgeted money.

Some year, I might be able to do something about it, but not this year.

If I suddenly have God give me $10,000 I will close up the wall and add ductwork and do it right.

I do agree that I want blinds that let the light in, because the room is still dark, even with the recessed lighting and I agree with not blocking the light with valances.
