Coats, hats, shoes, boots. Bags would be reusable shopping bags. No umbrellas as we don't own any. Towels in the winter for the dirty muddy dog.

I agree with all of the above comments. My area also is my landing station for my car keys, work bag, out going packages, and items to go out to the work shop.

Vant, i have a detached garage, so rt now there is a snow shovel, bag of ice melt, and a stiff broom for those one inch snows in the mudroom (fortunately shovel & broom can hang on coat hooks ) if these items werent inside the rear entry....id never make it to the garage

All that, plus in our build we'll have room for a bit of sports equipment like helmets, ski gear (live across the street from xc ski trails), and a boot and glove dryer hidden under flip-up benches.
