Schefflera Bonsai - Yellowing Leaves

Hello,

I purchased this Schefflera mid-December from a reputable florist who has been selling bonsai trees for ~15 years. He instructed me to submerge its soil in water for 3 minutes once per week and mist it frequently. I have been following those instructions (and misting daily). It is in a drainable pot placed a foot away from a northeastern window which, at this time of year, receives indirect light from the overcast sky. The room is not especially humid (Canadian winter), there aren't any noticeable drafts, and the temperature is maintained between 19-22 degrees celsius.

During the past 2 weeks I have noticed the leaves turning a slightly lighter shade of green. Some of them have yellowed and fallen off. The yellowing leaves are not consistently the lowest or most shaded or newest growth- I cannot recognize a pattern and they appear to be interspersed. I stopped misting the plant 4 days ago and I think that has helped the situation, but it's difficult to tell. Today the plant is due for a watering, but since the soil still feels slightly damp I'm considering postponing it for a couple days in case overwatering is the cause.

Does anyone have suggestions?

Thank you in advance!
