    ....one more little guy

    Moonstruck

What amazing Ms!! I'm being inspired and enabled by all of the posts here. First everyone's montana Aureomarginata's are wonderful, every single one. Having said that, I am impressed by the size of Sunnywood's m A's leaves.

Sunny wood, love your Manhatten and Mississippi Delta. I'm just going to have to get those two, as soon as I figure out where to put them. Is that hosta in picture # 6 Grand Marquee?

Newhostaaddict, your picture of Mountain Snow has sold me on that one.

Hostas for Barb...what a great picture of Mango Tango. I moved mine last year and hope it comes back.

Mae and Karin Black Cat et al, your Marilyn Monroe's are fantastic. I think I need to move mine to a location that increases the ripples.

zKathy, I love the subtle color of your Monsoon.

Jamie, the photos of your hostas are very good despite the problem with sunlight. My problem is with taking pictures at the wrong time of day. I've had my eye on World Cup...yours seems to be coming along wonderfully.

Peren.all, what can I say except that you grow hostas beautifully. That's a wonderful photo of Mystic Star in bloom. I will be more observant of mine and its flowers from now on.

Stoc, your Midwest Magic is magnificent. I didn't realize it could get that big. How long have you had yours?

mbug, you're a hosta grower extraordinaire...I hope my Maui Buttercups and Mourning Dove become as lovely as yours. The squirrels keep setting back MD and I should probably move MB to more sun. How much sun does your MB get? I love your Moonstruck but have trouble growing hostas with that much white in the leaves. Do you have any advice for growing those?

    Midnight Sun -- early spring

Midnight Sun in the fall. I put MS into the worst prepared hole in spring of 2014 and it seriously languished. I've improved the bed each year and it looked like a respectable Hosta this year. It's a very bright spot in the garden and has a nice tall vase shape.

Irawon I think you are correct. Looking at the hosta librairy it would be grand marquee. Thanks!

Sandy slopes, love your Moon Split and MD. I will be looking to buy that MS.

    BTW, everyone's mice are awesome.

Donna- that picture of Moon Dance belongs in the Hosta Library, and that plant belongs in my garden!!!! It's gorgeous!

irawon, Moon Split is a nice one. I think it looks similar to Luna Moth, only a little less symmetrical, maybe?

Another Mourning Dove, one of the earliest risers in the spring, long before Alligator Shoes which is right next door and on the Rawson early riser list.

And Donna, my new wish list is Miss Linda Smith can Moon Dance with a a Mojito in her hand. Thanks for enabling!

I will get Mourning Dove from a friend in spring, seems it's worth the waiting :-) And Ms.Linda Smith should be put on the wishlist...

Paula, this alphabet is such a good idea! Thank you!

I will have to talk to my neighbour about renting her dad's abandoned allotment garden if it goes on like this...That would be a perfect place for hosta, a little bit like one of your gorgeous woodland gardens, with big trees and the river nearby...problem is it can only reached by bicycle, so transport is an issue...

Marilyn Monroe is really a beautiful hosta, but mine was in sun the whole afternoon and then we had two very hot days and she didn't like that. I had to move her to more shade. I love the flowers...

    irawon

Thanks, that is Midwest Magics 4th year.

    Marilyn Monroe

Moody Blues new in 2016 - liked the name even though there is nothing evident yet for easy recognition of this one.

Marrakech- a favourite of mine from the get-go

It has been growing in a more shady location for a few years now and settles into this lovely chartreuse colour. When I was growing it in a pot I had it following the sun...where it retained more of a gold, yet not quite as vibrant as in early spring. A spectacular spring show!

Another Marrakech photo - last May...its this particular stage of growth that drives me wild in the spring...after the pips, first leaf, first flush, subsequent flushes, hot flashes, etc..... ;-)

    Made You Look...flowers

I have not yet seen the lighter edge/margin...perhaps this year. I really should plant this one. It gets more attractive with age. This is the same plant when I first bought it...hard to believe.

    mid-summer last year

Mary Marie Ann - in memory of my sister Mary

It reminds me of a similar looking hosta, Whirlwind although MMA leaf centres transition into white.

    when I first bought it

    Mini Skirt

Mourning Dove - interesting to note that margins appear so subtle and become more pronounced in the spring

    Later in season...I guess I didn't take a close-up later in summer

Mourning Dove is such a gorgeous powdery blue in colour that I feel I must plant it somewhere where it's not as exposed to the elements. Heavy rain and sun exposure are a bit harsh on the wax coating of this beautiful plant.

Beautiful Marrakech, Jo! Mine was in a parcel forgotten for a week in the parcel shop (not by me). I had to cut it to the ground and it came back eventually, but just so. I'm hoping for spring now...

It's been such a busy weekend! Maybe I can finish with this post.

Mississippi Delta, planted behind the house with no irrigation and frequently ignored for weeks by its irresponsible owner. It was smaller by the end of the season due to the neglect. We'll see how it ones back this spring, but it has great potential to impress where it's located.

My Mango Tango turned out to have two left feet and reverted twice. I've given up on it. No pic.

Marilyn Monroe came to an early demise due to severe sunburn. She needs to be moved but she is beautiful in flower even devastated by the elements.

Montana Aureomarginata--my first bonus hosta from Crhris at Hallsons. I was still in the early stages of addiction and hadn't even noticed how impressive this hosta can get. I guess Chris did the thinking for me and figured out I should get started growing one since it is slow here. I'm hoping it will get to be as impressive as all of yours are someday.

Thank you, Karin! Marrakech has been a good grower for me. No doubt it will be splendid for you this spring with additional eyes! :-)

What marvelous M's I added Marilyn Monroe and Mourning Dove to my wishlist, boy that list is getting long!

Here is my Montana Aureomarginata, new in 2016. I am hoping I will get more variegation this season.

Moonlight Sonata, One of my favorites. I love the glossy blue leaves this plant has. This summer I will get a better picture of it.

    Midwest Magic, new in 2015

Dave, where did you get your Midnight Sun from? You and Kathy make me think I need it.

zkathy - " And Donna, my new wish list is Miss Linda Smith can Moon Dance with a a Mojito in her hand."

They should dance to Van Morrison because "Well, it's a marvelous night for a Moondance..."

Moonlight Sonata purchased in 2015. A hosta grower suggest it and I am glad that he did!

    Closeup showing the wavy edges

Love your Marilyn Monroe photo with the drops Jo. Unfortunately, no photo of mine. Picked up Marrakech this last year, and I am glad that I did!

Thank you, NHL! Moonlight Sonata sure is a beauty...looks so luscious. Hey, that's great about Marrakech! Just wait until you see it emerge in the spring...you will see its bright pips from a distance. Bet you'll take some great shots of that one too. ;-)

Denis, pretty sure it came from Fransen. I'm looking forward to this one leaping in a few years time. Pictures on The Library are stunning.

    Minnesota Wild
Unfortunately the team lost last night, but they are still having a great season.

My M's all seem to be struggling this year. Have a Merry Sunshine with great color but was devastated by cutworms last year.

    Majesty, only a leaf shot.

Minuteman, needs a new location and fresh start.

tj - pictures of your m. A. have always just taken my breath away! So its on my 'must have' list and hopefully I can get one this year.

A lot of you seem to have beautiful results with Moonstruck... So for a white-centered hosta, it's not too hard to grow? (Or are you all just really extra-awesome hosta gardeners? ;>)

Thanks, windy. Lots of great mA's on this thread. Take a look at peren's, its a dandy. My Moonstruck gets very little direct sun but a lot of high, filtered-through-a-walnut sun. Seems to have enough green to like those conditions.

Thanks Dave, seems to be out of stock at fransen, will keep looking.

Jo, your Marrakech is gorgeous. I have wanted that one for years. Its not easy to find. Love the pictures

Very nice plants everyone. I also grow Moonstruck under a Walnut Tree. It seems to like it.

Here are a few other M's

Mack the Knife in August showing the orange color.

    Mister Watson

Mrs Minky!! Thats a new one to me. I have not seen that one before, but I am pretty sure I NEED it. probably another one that no one can find.....but still very nice.

Newhostalady. You will love Moonlight Sonata. I got it from JGH in 2013 and it is such a nice plant. Unusual color. Kind of a grayish green. I have it in an area with a lot of tree roots, and it looks nice all the time.

Don, I have seen your Mister Watson before, and every time I see it I think its one I have to have. Very nice

Miss Tokyo, taken in mid-June of last year. As you can see, it was hit by hail, but its beautiful, muted pastel hues are from bright shade all day, with just a couple hours of late afternoon sun. A slow grower for me, but worth the wait.
