Black glass backsplashes are beautiful but it is like a black car - it will show everything! Just keep that in mind... maybe instead of a bold color in the backsplash, you do something more forgiving but still dramatic! I would go bolder on the walls - the contract will carry nicely with the floor....

Hmm, thats a really good idea I hadn't thought of. The kitchen in the photo you sent looks very nice. I could seriously use many ideas from this photo-the dark wall color, the pot rack, the white tile going up higher on the wall by the stove and the stove hood. Thanks so much Debbi Washburn!

There is so much amazing tile out in the world and it doesn't have to be expensive either... just do your homework - we sell tile from a company called Tile by Onyx and they have amazing tiles from Italy and Spain that won't break the bank! And the bonus is they are all porcelain tiles - so easy maintenance!

Colorwise, Sea salt is a greyed green - and would act as a neutral, while giving you a little color - but given the clear, warm, bright colors you are showing in rugs, would be a big adjustment on your part - although it would allow everything else to pop. What are your furnishings like? Are they bright, or more neutral colors? I would be a fan of red accents, while keeping the wall color cool - maybe you would be more comfortable with a pale blue tone, to echo the darker blue in your rugs - or just a color with less gray in it.

tesschron That is exactly what she said, that it would act as a neutral but I just don't see it blending so well with the rest of the house, as you mentioned. Thanks for your wonderful advice, much appreciated. Blue is certainly something to consider.

Your home is bright and colourful so even though Sea Salt is nice in its place, I don't think this is it. I think you would regret it. And frankly I think it was a lazy suggestion by the colour consultant. Doesn't take much imagination to say "Sea Salt!" these days...

There are other, clearer colours that also act as neutrals. I have SW Meander on my dining room ceiling. It's clear and bright without vibrating. A bright crisp white would be better than muted Sea Salt imo, or the charcoal black posted by Debbi Washburn is gorgeous. Beth H's pics are beautiful.

Orange or coral would be a nice colour for accents that would tie nicely to the other colours in your home.

lindsey Yes, and it's kind of making me re-think her other suggestions as well! I do love the charcoal black posted by Debbi Washburn and can't stop thinking about it. I think it would look very nice in my kitchen, I love having a feature wall and it seems to pull everything together nicely. I would do orange but I think I have enough of it already in my house...did I mention my orange sofa yet??? :)

I agree with lindsey. Your rugs are all bright primary colors, which do not work well with sea salt. Stick to white walls if you are going with a black and white scheme. In my opinion a black backsplash will suck up all the light and look dreary. Based on your rug choices, it appears you like happier colors. Especially since you are using a white and black checkered floor, and have variation in your countertop, keep the rest of the kitchen simple, with white. You can always add colorful accessories, but it's harder to redo a tile job.

calidesign I agree with your point about black sucking up all the light and I had not even thought about that so thanks for saying it! Black would not be a good choice for my backsplash. I am now looking at these tiles as a possibility.... Aspect 3 x 6 Glass Tile in Frost. I like that there is no grout!
