Actrually Mat the walls of the bay window are load bearing..........they are just minor loads (the roof of the bay only). Secondly, balcony loads are not based on the number of people you expect (3), they are based on dead loads and live loads........the dead loads being the weight of the materials themselves used in the construction and the live loads are local snow loads and the number of people who could possible be on the balcony based on the square footage available (based on square feet per person). The structural supports and the connection to the exterior wall of the house are based on the configuration of the balcony, the combined loads and designed accordingly.............there is no one size fits all and connection means and methods are dependent on the structural elements and existing configuration.

In short anybody who gives you an answer to this question without all the information needed is merely shooting from the hip. Gathering this information will mean an on site investigation, a review of your local codes, design calculations and I suspect a permit and quite possible signed and sealed engineering drawings as to the design.

Do yourself and your future guest who might join you on your deck a favor...........hire a local structural engineering to design your deck, hire a licensed contractor to build your deck and party away, knowing that you are safe........your guest will thank you, your insurance company will thank you.........and most of all you will most likely live to enjoy your deck.
